Could the daily bread be Jesus? "I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:51), "Jesus answered, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never hunger, and whoever believes in Me will never thirst," (John 6:35), "I am the bread of life," (John 6:48), "And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me," (Luke 22:19), and "and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." (1 Corinthians 11:24). Could it then be to ask for Lord Jesus to daily be with us, and his presence to be among us? Or could it be about Eucharist/Communion? Or is it an allusion to that God takes care of us,  "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" (Matthew 6:26).

If someone needs the daily bread to be Jesus it is Jesus.

Perhaps its both spiritual (Jesus being with us daily, spending time with him) and provision (pay bills and etc)?

The Disciples asked Jesus "How should we pray?" Jesus responded:

"9 Pray then like this:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name
10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts (transgressions, sins),
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil. [Some manuscripts add, For Thine is Power, Kingdom, and Glory Forever and Ever Amen]" (Matthew 6:9-13).

Question, is the prayer in of itself to be prayed as it is word for word, or is it a list where you insert your personal prayers, for example instead of "Give me my daily bread, you say Lord help me pay the bills and put food on table, forgive my debts or transgressions, list them specifically," or is it model for prayers? That each line represents aspects of prayer, Saying who God is, Praise, Requests, Forgiveness for Sins, Safety in Temptation, and protection from Evil Powers.

Cant believe this question is here! Been thinkin bout this question for a couple days. If you believe Jesus intended it to be word for word what about this? [Some manuscripts add, For Thine is Power, Kingdom, and Glory Forever and Ever Amen]". Was it added by someone? When?

The Lord works in mysterious ways, there may be multiple ways JESUS can use this prayer depends the needs of the individual when he reads the prayer and tries to comunicates something to him.

But when I consider some of the historical events that took place during the Lord's God's rein , and how some time he brought famine upon the people, and when I said famine, I am not talking just famine , because some times it happens, because it just happens.

I am taking the famine that's the Lord's doings, and it last as long as he intents to.

Like after the flood , the Lord said , there won't be anymore flood.

The same as in this case, because of disobedience, the Lord God use the drought to punish the people.

With this prayer JESUS was telling the people even thought there will be disobedience , God will  never again send famine upon the Land.

So he was telling the people not to be afraid , God will never send famine again., Because of sin in the earth.

Do not blame God for droughts , they happen.

There are thousands upon thousands of scrolls (copies of the Gospels that contain these verses) and some include For Thine is Power, Kingdom, and Glory Forever and Ever, while others don't. It means 50/50 of the scrolls have it and don't have it.

I am glad you found a place to talk about a question you had. :)

I talked about that in blog post I wrote, many catastrophes happen because this world is  under the curse of sin, "21that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time." (Romans 8:21-22). We are redeemed and delivered from curse by Christ, "But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." (Galatians 3:13). But the world, planet is still under a curse and raging towards destruction which was caused by Fall of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3). That is why the Earth must be remade (Revelation 21:1-5, and 2 Peter 3).

I say it's both and can be used in both ways. I've been doing this for several years now and I think it's good. One of my Bible's refers to it as the Model Prayer and that was where I got the idea. I then took it apart line by line and considered what each sentence meant. Then I personalized it to me, my life, and that day. However, sometimes I'm too upset to do that so I pray it exactly as Jesus gave it. It's interesting that you made this thread bc I think last Sunday 1 of the morning TV preachers gave a sermon on this very topic. He said what we're saying, it can be used either way.

It is meant to be prayed "as is" with no qualifiers as you are thus acknowledging God's total sovereignty and the fact that He knows what your needs are far better than you. You are handing your life over to Him. He is in control not you. He will give you what He knows you need

Literalism isn't a bad, the Luke version does go like this, "Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples, Jesus said, This is how you should pray:[

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one. Amen." (Luke 11:1-4).
The Disciples did ask a specific question (as they do in Matthew 24:1-3). However, I still think its both, that you can pray it literally as it is said by our Lord Jesus Christ and use it as model for how to pray.

I believe the prayer means us to encapsulate ourselves in the words and the feeling of security in Christ himself. As if we're making a phone call to the most high. Be in the words, surrounded by the power that gave them life and meaning. Progress through the stanzas and feel the armor of God encompassed within the prayer fill and penetrate your being so as to go forth in your day within the hallowed shade of the Father.
