I am unaware of a common Jewish culture, (Seems to me if there is one it may be to commonly disagree on conclusios reached) never mind a common Jewish culture declaration that one should have three children if one is to multiply. Thanks. It’s cultural, but if you are asking for a source I can provide one. The truth however, is that if someone says in African culture it can mean a variety or one aspect of Afrikan.culture. Guest 1sheep
I am wondering how "the other person" you speak of can consider another persons decision to have children or not have children selfish or not selfish. What is the "other persons point of reference? Muslims? Islamic law generally discourages the use of contraception but then again so does the catholic faith( or as I remember;used to). Come to think of it, mormons have rather large families alot of the time as well! What if I used those three examples as my guide? That was a rhetorical question because I follow Christ and not a false faith. Do you see how absurd it would be to judge others based on those three false faiths as an "example"? This subject cannot be painted with a broad brush. There are a plethora of reasons as to why some have more or less children than others. Some use God given wisdom when deciding and most dont. I personally dont think its any of my business.

I dont see anything biblically that would suggest that having a small family is selfish, but it does speak about wise noney management often. It’s overwhelmingly expensive to have and raise children. I used to work with single mothers with children in the school district to help them get a high school diploma. All of them were on complete welfare and having more children was just money in their pockets. I always thought THAT was selfish!

Same goes for many of his disciples.
