The Lord felt it necessary to provide the data on the Beast, and so there is some reason for us to figure out what the Number of the Beast 616 is.

Sonshine, below is a bolded copy of my earlier post which shows us that the earliest fragments of copies from the Number of the Beast from the book of Revelation have the Number of the Beast as 616. Someone or some group changed the number sometime in the third century or later to 666.

In May 2005, it was reported that scholars at Oxford University using advanced imaging techniques had been able to read illegible portions of the earliest known record of the Book of Revelation, from the Oxyrhynchus site, Papyrus 115 or p115, dating to the mid to late third century. The fragment gives the Number of the Beast as 616 (chi, iota, stigma), rather than the majority text (chi, xi, stigma). The other early witness Codex Epharaemi Rescriptus has it written in full: hexakosisi deka hex (lit. six hundred sixteeen) (Wikipedia: "Number of the Beast" 2009).

It looks like the two earliest texts that we have on the Number of the beast have it as 616 and not 666 as it is written in later texts.

Revelation 13v 18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.

''It Is''  is in the present tense of the verb which may imply that ''The man'' [from John's perspective] was known to John, a man that either existed at that time or had existed.

I believe 666=18, which means "bondage" in Biblical numerics, so anytime you see this number then BE CAREFUL, as far as having any dealings with those who are associated with it...and yes that's what i am saying, that numbers actually do mean something in the Bible, but each person has to make up their own mind of course.

     Numbers, at times, were used in the Bible symbolically.  The number six signifies imperfection, something not normal, monstrous.  Compare 2 Samuel 21:20; 1 Chronicles 20:6; Daniel 3:1.  Therefore since the number six falls short of seven (completeness to God’s standards) and is tripled representing gross imperfection.  The account states that it is a man’s number, and because people encompass the second beast as well, it could not be spiritual but earthly-symbolizing human governments. (Revelation 13:11-18) Furthermore, it is a fitting name for the world’s gigantic political system that rules supreme and do not measure up to God’s standards.

It´s no secret that the antichrist is man himself. Not any one man, but man as such. The devil is man who have lost touch with the divine and who have corrupted himself and the world in search for earthly pleasures. 

We see today how low man has fallen, i.e. man has lost touch with the divine, and in doing so man becomes like the beast, and the beast is the whole man created system of control and governance. But each and everyone inside this system is responsible for their thoughts and actions, they become like the beast, the beast system.

God is at this very moment helping those souls entrapped in this system get out. And its not easy, it might mean one has to let go of ones family (that might be part of the system), all ones toys and so on. The house is burning, and those who refuse to see it and decide to stay inside to play with their toys, will go down with it.
