like has been stated, some medications can trigger it...morso, as people age, their metabolism slows down, which means they also gain weight easier. What they once ate-with no issues, now goes to the waist. So they may not be "gluttonous" as in going out and overeating, they just may not be changing their diet like they maybe should.

I would say if your pastors biggest problem is being overweight, then both of you are doing pretty good. Perhaps, you should look at whats really going on here-you have a long string of posts all criticizing the church and finding reasons not to go, and they seem to get shallower and shallower. Perhaps, the issue is with your heart, and not with your church.

Luke 18 : 9 – 14   To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:  “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.  The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.  I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Pastors and Gluttony: Is It A Sin?

He has admonished members of the congregation for over-indulging in pornography and media in general, but it's altogether obvious he over-indulges in food, to a gross degree. I almost am starting to find his appearance comical. He's taking on the appearance of one of those circus clowns with huge shoes and pants the size of a tent. Sometimes, he becomes very animated, striding across the stage back and forth, and he becomes short of breath and beads of sweat start to form on his forehead and above his mouth.

As others have pointed out, age related factors commonly cause weight gain issues. And as also mentioned, there are medical, medicinal/pharm or metabolic/genetic matters that could be also be a factor in this. Or, as you've indicated, he's just not making attempts at weight management necessities. Addiction is addiction, regardless the substance or supply of the sin. Should he be condemned for that, however? No, certainly not. We are not to be the judge or one to convict. The Lord is who is responsible for godly convictions. It's His business, and not ours.

I've heard a preacher I listen to often say "sin is a buffet line, eat off your own plate". Before pinpointing his struggles take a long look in the mirror.

You asked a question and the answer is yes.   I would pray for him as our Spiritual leaders need our prayers and pray for wisdom from God as to what he wants you to do, if anything.

I guess that is a good lesson in not judging others hypocritically.

I agree, and it's setting a poor example for the congregation. I see so many people at the church and especially church leaders, who are in very poor shape. Some of them look like they're wearing prosthetic fat suits you see actors wearing in movies. Someone mentioned shallow Hal and yes, there are people who do actually look like Gwyneth Paltrow in a fat suit.

With a pastor so obese, and with a large percentage of church leaders following suit, the congregation is getting the false impression that a gluttonous lifestyle is ok. It's not ok.

We need leaders who are healthy and strong and who have the discipline to avoid addictions, whether with food or with other substances. I will pray for him.

Although I do not see this as a reason to be prejudiced to people who are over weight. I think it is wrong for a person who drinks alcohol and drinks coffee to point their finger at someone who smokes cigarettes and think they are terrible by taking part in a drug when alcohol and caffeine are a drug.

It doesn't matter if someone does NOT drink alcohol or coffee. That someone, needs to keep his or her nose on their own side of the fence and quit noticing and worrying about what every little thing others are doing or not doing! When we do this, it is to make ourselves look better in our own minds and hearts. It is unjustified criticism at its worst. Jesus gave a glaring example of this very thing in Luke 18: 9 – 14.

1 Thessalonians 4 : 11  and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
