Revelation 9:1   And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

Revelation 9:2   And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

Revelation 9:3   And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

Revelation 9:4   And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

Revelation 9:5   And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

Revelation 9:6   And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

 

If we read what it's saying in the context, this angel is to come.  Remember it is God's angels who are serving Christ, that deliver the plagues. So this star that will fall from heaven, has to be an angel of the Lord, sent down with the key  - to unlock the bottomless pit and let those evil spirits out.

If you're interested in digging, check out the original Greek.  I think it supports the NASB rendering:

• Then the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him.  Revelation 9:1

Opens up some different possibilities.

I think that the seven spirits are the attributes of the holy spirit, manifested separately. The holy spirit can be everywhere at the same time and has an essence that he carries to believers. The bible says that the holy spirit is not given by measure, which means that we will know if we have the holy spirit by examine that we have these seven attributes.

Consider these special attributes of the Holy Spirit:

He convicts us of sin (John 16:8).

He permanently indwells us (John 14:16-17).

He seals us (Eph. 1:13).

He teaches us (John 14:26).

He guides us into all truth (John 16:13).

He reminds us (John 14:26).

He bears fruit through us (Gal. 5:22-23).

He comforts us (John 16:7).

He equips us with spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12:4-7).

He fills us (Eph. 5:18).

He empowers us (Acts 1:8).

If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).
