Ok, If you live as an Israelite, and I said, "the scroll", what would that mean to you, what would be the importance of a scroll to you? What "scroll" would you be thinking about?

Then think about that scroll being over your head, between you and God, above you, in the heavens. What would that mean?

The scroll is the covenant between God and Israel. For the broken branches it is the Law and the Prophets. The covenant is between "heaven and earth". God's promises through the covenant are protecting Israel. The covenant promises to protect Israel and Jerusalem are withdrawn when Israel rejected the new Pentecost kingdom covenant.

The result of that rejection was the destruction of Jerusalem and the dispersion of the broken branches in 70 AD.

See that what the people said in v 16 is the fulfillment of the prophecy Jesus made in Lk 23:30. This prophecy of Jesus was made to the people of Jerusalem in 33 AD (approx) and could ONLY be fulfilled by the people of that generation.

There are 3 "heavens".

1. The atmosphere of the planet, air, etc.

2. The universe, planets, stars, the void, etc.

3. Where God is, His presence, close to God.

I'm going with #3. 

So when it says that heaven departs as a scroll, it's saying that the presence of God "withdraws" from the subject, Jerusalem.

We take these words literally in Revelation. We do not add to them and we do not delete any words.
