Satan has been alive since the day he was created.  He began meddling with man from the beginning since Adam, and with all the generations of children after him.  The earth is Satan's playground and has always been.  So yes, he's been 'alive' on this earth for the past 2000 odd years, and even beyond that.  The only difference is that Satan was barred from heaven at the resurrection of Christ.  He cannot mingle or corrupt the host of heaven anymore.  That job is done, and he's out for good.

Whomever we obey is our Master or our God.   Do you think the whole world is aware that they are worshiping Satan or will be?  Of course not, he just deceives them into doing his will which makes him their god by default.

Yes, and during the days of Job, we have proof that Satan attended a meeting in heaven with the angels, and when God asked him where did he come from? he replied 'from walking to and fro on the earth'. 

 Job 1:6   Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

  Job 1:7   And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
 

This proves that Satan is has been doing his business on the earth the whole time, even in the days of Job.  The evil of his doings has been here since the beginning corrupting everything.  People are teaching that Satan will be cast out of heaven soon and will bring much evil with him?  The evil is already here, since the garden and his fruit has matured in the hearts of men, fully ripe, ready to be plucked up by the roots.

Poor translation here as elsewhere. "ha-satan" means opposer. Satan as a proper noun is not referred to in the Tanakh. Even the Lord that opposes Barak was called 'ha-satan' because He stood in the way and bade the donkey speak.

We often get ourselves mixed up thru poor translations. The tendency in the Tanakh is not to personify ha-satan. However, in the 2nd Temple era and on into the New Testament, 'satan' is given a (proper noun) name and referred to as Satan and not ha-satan.

Well, there certainly is no shortage of interesting comments here! And I hope it continues for at least as long the thread "what is a soul." 

First, I have not studied Job or Revelation but because of these comments I thought I chime in....

Possible timeline:

1) God created angels,

2) God created everything outside of His domain (there was nothing there outside),

3) God created the heavens and the earth and everything outside His domain,

        a) God created man "IN HIS IMAGE",

                   1) the angels were NOT created in His image - where man would be "a living soul". Angels are not a living soul. They do not have a special relationship with God and never will. 

                   2) this did not sit well with satan or those like him. Pride, jealousy, power, and every other ugly vice rose up from in them  - they are not going to stand for this and rebelled - time for Plan A to go down to this place where this man is and get him to sin (they know to disobey God who is HOLY will force man to be placed outside of God's presence and, well, mission accomplished),

4) Satan does visit Adam in the Garden and tempts him and succeeds in getting him to sin,

         a) Adam loses his "spirit" - that was breathed into him by God at his creation (Man was the only creature God breathed His essence/righteousness/spirit into - no animals, no angels - this very special step in man's creation would be a very personal relationship with God  - satan and his kind could not stand this),

         b) Two things HAD TO HAPPEN AT THAT TIME,

                    1) Adam  was removed from the Garden and God's presence. and God told him he would die,

                    2) Satan also sinned and was removed from Heaven and God's presence and God told him (in different language), he would die and his time is short,

                              a) Prior to this neither Adam or satan and his kind were subject to either time or death,

                              b) Man AND satan are wondering the earth - no place to go!

                                   1) ONLY difference after the fall is that God designed a Plan of Salvation for man  - the Cross / HS if they would accept it,

                                   2) Plan of Salvation does NOT include satan and his kind===they will simply wonder the earth still trying to corrupt mankind until the end of days (again, they know their time is short),

5) Job 1:6   Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

  Job 1:7   And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it

          a) Perhaps this"day" is not in Jobs time but at the end of time. Two things:

                     1) Neither can be in the presence of God after the fall so this takes place is at the judgement day,

                     2) Sons of God is a term (check this please) used in the NT representing those who have accepted the Cross and the HS = prior to this they are referred to as Sons of Man (Adam), therefore, 

                      3) Satan is also not allowed in the presence of God until judgement day, and he indeed could only come from the earth (kicked out of heaven),

                       4) "Present themselves to the Lord" is a very special term - used many times in OT where a king folks would be "presented" or evaluated by the king. Here is Jesus evaluating / judging man and satan,

6) Sons of God will live with Jesus forever in His presence. Sons of man (those who did not accept the Cross / HS, along with satan and his kind, will be destroyed forever.

7) Satan would never be allowed back in heaven after he deceived Adam= he would be cast down to the earth for the next 6,000 years and now subject to time and space and allowed to continue to deceive man. 

8) Adam would never be allowed back in the Garden but put himself in a position to be deceived by satan for the next 6,000 years,

9) God has a Plan of Salvation  / Restoration for man to restore that "spirit" back into Adam - only way to be allowed to be in His presence. Satan and his kind NEVER had become a "living soul" and there is nothing in them to restore... he is gone forever and he knows about God's Plan of Restoration and does not want ANY man to get back to God when he has no chance!

You are both right in a way, but the church indeed has all power over Satan, the problem is the church in the end times "falls away from  its faithful origins" overall, and we wo have been holding the Beast Kingdom at bay for 2000 years suddenly have a new opponent we have never had, WORLD WIDE COMMUNICATIONS where evil can flourish. Remember, Israel were told to wipe out every man, woman and child else evil would come unto them via these descendants, Israel disobeyed, and evil came in via their false gods etc. Likewise, God confused the languages in Babel so these evil enterprises couldn't flourish, in these end times with the computers, instant messaging, facebook, twitter etc. the evil has a UNITER so to speak, thus Satan can use all these platforms and strategize against a weakened Church. 

So, in essence, we have all authority over Satan, and the gates of hell would over come the Church, thus Jesus pulls us out because he made the promise that the gates of hell would never over come his church.

First of All, even though I do not believe in Pre-Trib Rapture, Believers are not the ones who will face the decision to be Beheaded or not.   And the Beheaded are the [ones] who Rule with Christ during the Reign.   That won't be any of us who are Saved and Believe in God.

Justin, it's the same Satan.  The one that we know as the devil.  Not just some other opposer.  The new testament confirms who that Satan is.  He is the one who is always trying to block us from the truth, not the KJV.
