We live in extraordinary technical times for tools and information available at our fingertips for studying the Bible, the people, Greek and Hebrew (lexicons) words, commentaries, places, events, history, and everything else. It once took days, weeks, or years to get information and documentation studying and researching. I used to have hundreds of handwritten notes scattered everywhere, and in various Bibles I own. Not anymore; I am more efficient with my time and organized these days.

During the church sermon, I used to get a bit frustrated when the pastor would say, turn to such and such. When I finally got to the verse(s) in the Bible to read along, it was already read, and he said, turn to such and such scripture again. I am slow and am always behind.

Today with my leather-bound Bible in hand, I keep it open to the key passages of the sermon. Now when the pastor goes from scripture to scripture on the subject matter. Three lightning-quick taps on my Samsung E-tab and I am now ahead of him and can read along and not lose concentration or my place. By the way, I use both the Blue Letter Bible and My Bible apps on the E-tab.

Computer Bible programs are a blessing in my studies; almost everything a person needs are a mouse click or two away from instant access. It would be too lengthy to discuss everything I can find and do with my Logos 9 Gold Baptist addition software program. I have had the Logos program for a year now, and it is the Cadillac, the cat’s meow of Bible software programs and keeps getting better.

There are several excellent Bible software programs on the market I have used. E-Sword and SwordSearcher are excellent. I have had SwordSearcher for several years now and still use it frequently. They recently upgraded it, and it is even better yet. I believe it is still around $60.00 for the package. For that price and what it includes, it is a steal, in my opinion.

I had several requirements before I purchased any Bible software programs. I needed the full function of the program using it offline. I needed it fully restored for free and downloaded, including all my notes, highlights, and personalization, not if but when I have computer problems.

This morning, I was thinking about a particular Bible verse and could not even remember which book in the Bible. I typed a couple of words of the verse, and BANG, there it is.

Would those of you with Bible software programs agree with my above assessment?

Daniel 12:4 (KJV)  But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

There is only one danger with digital resources, it can be changed.  When opening a book, nothing is changed from the last time you opened it.  I'm not saying that software is always bogus, or that software is undesirable, just that it can be changed without the user being aware of the changes, unless it was a dramatic change.  Something to consider when thinking of the reliability between a purchased book and purchased software.

I have been using Accordance for 20 years since when it was still Gramcord. I am a big fan---I think its the best there is. At this point, I have a crazy collection of resources.

It is a huge help.

Blessings Brother Dennis

Would I agree? Lol, no idea- Im not computer savvy, still bring my Bible to church- still have heaps of books & Bibles...... Not techy at all- can barely type

However, I do have a nice desktop & a Chromebook laptop but lately Im having to use my phone only( very hard btw) . I do like BibleGateway as I can parallel read Gods Word without several Bibles laid out and easilyvlook up a verse if I cant recall where it is..... I still do reach over to my hardcopies if something doesnt sound accurate( like OneLight mentioned about reliability)

Oh & E- Sword is great too.  Problem for me is I just dont trust that internet and Im not so sure about knowledge being increased... It seems there is an immense abundance of information easily accessible but does it really increase anyones knowledge when no thought or study is required, just type in a few words?I dont know and I dont like calling anyone dumb but I think there has never been such a dumb generation.

Im sure Ill get negative feedback for that statement but take away their" devices" & what do you get? Im not impressed, especially online where so often its quite obvious your conversing with someone who is " googling"

Dont get me wrong, no doubt there are people like you Dennis who use all the resources you mentioned for " studying", for learning ,researching with all due diligence .... I believe you are in the minority

Imo, this convenient ease of " looking it up" encourages most NOT to study, why should they when they have GOOGLE

Maybe Im all washed up and completely wrong but in my own experience, in person face to face discussions I notice a lack of knowledge & alot of misinformed people

Im also a little off your Topic, I think your point is more about study tools for the folks that can make better use of their time- Im going on about another Topic arent I? Lol- sorry

Your Sis, in Christs love

I cannot argue that. I have hard copies and books of much of what is digitalized as a backup. As with pastors and Bible teachers, there is a level of being a Berean and trust. The same applies to any services and programs, there has to be a level of trust, honesty, and an unblemished reputation and recommendations.

It can be argued and I agree, that all I need is my printed bible and the Lord.

However, the Lord has also provided resources that are helpful and edifying.

IMO, its important to be aware of what my brethren before me have seen and experienced.

I used to own a sizable library of printed commentaries, dictionaries, and translations, Strongs And Youngs and lots of books, etc. i loved it, but now, I can get so much more done in any given time.

i could go on and on.

I see no downside but rather a blessing.

in the context of forums? Its like a marriage made in heaven.

lol

Well, kwik, I’m surprised; you must be behind the times. Everyone knows if it is on the Internet, it must be true. LoL.

No, I do not trust Google. It is a known fact they manipulate their search engine to prioritize what they want you to find. I am not tech-savvy either but I am trying to learn. A day soon is coming when all financial transactions will have to be made electronically, and my smartphone and computer are more intelligent than I am. The big push is now in progress to do everything electronically, save a stamp and a tree.

I have hard copies of many computer resources, as I briefly mentioned above. I have never run across anything I was suspicious about or reliability to verify with a hard copy. That is not to say it has not or will not happen.

They made a movie starring me some years ago, “Dumb and Dumber.” The role of Dumb was already cast, so which part do you think I was cast for? I need all the help and resources I can manage for my studies.

I am never concerned about going off-topic, and it takes more discipline not to branch off like a family genealogy tree than I can muster. For most topics, you have to change direction to other applicable and relevant things.

Honesty, reputation, history, and reliability go a long way in the book of Dennis, 2nd Opinions. Other than God's inerrant, infallible word, there will be mistakes, errors, differences in theology and interpretation, etc., in everything we read and study.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
