True or false? One who doesn't know the Bible might be closer to God than a Bible scholar.

I believe the answer is "true".

Years ago I was in a waiting room at a doctor's office.  There was a girl that I would say was around 14 years of age and she was with her mother.  From out the of blue she asked me if I believed in Jesus.  I looked at her, smiled, and said "Of course!".  She smiled and put her hands together and exclaimed "Oh goody!".  She was, by the way, very autistic.  She is also, in my view, very blessed to have such faith.  I have no idea how much (if any) of the Bible she has read but, even if it's very little (or none), she may very well be more filled with the Holy Spirit than a Bible scholar.

It's not what one knows; it's what's in their heart.  Agreed?

The Pharisees were the Bible scholars of their day. Some Bible scholars are purely secular in nature. Deathbed repentance can happen, and I do believe that God takes things like learning disabilities into account. But for the rest of us whose memory and comprehension are within the range of normal and have easy access to the Bible? It doesn't really say anything positive about how we take our relationship with God if we don't make the time to study the Bible. It's not a good fruit to bear and as a general rule suggests a faith without works (action).

There has to be some knowledge and some belief.

Pre school children are taught the gospel, simply and they can have the knowledge and the faith in Jesus.

Just as academics can have a headful of knowledge, but no faith and the ' spiritual' have no knowledge and no faith.

I certainly believe it's important to study the Bible because it is filled with wisdom and truth and we would be lost without God's word.  With that said, however, I think one could never read the Bible and if they believe in and pray to Jesus and faithfully follow his Great Commandment, I think they're good to go, so to speak.  Undoubtedly there were many Christians throughout history that never owned a Bible.  Anyway, there are undoubtely many who know the Bible inside and out that aren't necessarily faithful followers of the Great Commandment.  Jesus himself said that those are the most important laws and said nothing about reading the Bible.  Of course, if we didn't read the Bible we wouldn't know that we're supposed to follow the Great Commandment :D, although I believe some people are blessed to intrinsically have the knowledge and the desire to do so.

A person can be born again without knowing the Bible very much.  I doubt if it is possible they could be completely ignorant of the Gospel and be born again.  And certainly there are many scholars that aren't born again.  Simply reading the Bible and studying it does not mean a person gets automatically saved.  Some people that believe they are Christians have a strong belief only; and while they may have read the Bible 10 times over their belief hasn't changed into saving faith.  It takes a special act of God's grace to save a person.  Belief alone won't do it.

I believe that you are correct, sir.  Matthew 7:21-23 comes to mind and, after all, even the demons believe in Jesus.

Your post is implying something that's ....well, in my opinion, dangerous.

I obviously communicated very poorly.  Please forgive me.  I don't know how much Bible study the young lady had but I presume that she's had some and maybe she knows it better than most.  My point was that she might be more filled with the Holy Spirit and closer to God than a Bible scholar with thousands of followers.

Matthew 20:16

English Standard Version

16 So the last will be first, and the first last.”

The wisest course of action for all of us, in my opinion, is to refrain from assuming anything about or passing judgment on another person's relationship with the Lord.  Only God knows.  I imagine most of us are guilty of doing this and should ask our Father's forgiveness.     … Selah

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
