End of the Spear

Several years ago I was blessed by a guest speaker at my church... a tribesman from the Waodani tribe in Ecuador. He had been a violent warrior prior to being saved and now felt he was very much needed to be a missionary to the States. The story of the missionaries adn the tribe is told in the movie "End of the Spear" that will be out January 20th... I am certainly going to see it!

Many Christians are familiar with the story that made international headlines in 1956 when the five missionaries were violently speared to death by the Waodani Indians, then known as the

I spent a few years in Quito, Ecuador back in 1964 to 1968. I was just a kid but I remember meeting the sister of one of the missionaries killed and the tribesman who killed him. It made quite an impression on me...and I was only 7 or 8 years old.

A great book if your interested in this sort of thing is Spirit of the Rainforest, A yanomamo shaman's story; by Mark Andrew Ritchie.

my church group is gonna go see this movie when it comes out. It looks very interesting. Why do you think the movie industry is making a lot of spiritual movies these days? Theres the "Passion", "Narnia" "The Gospel" and more.........

I think the movie industry is making what they would consider more "spiritual" movies. For each Christian movie that came out, there were probably twice as many that came our dealing with evil spirits, the occult or the "dark side".

People don't want this life to be all there is so they are drawn to anything "spiritual".........looking for hope.

Also, from what I've heard from the media, Hollywood has taken a big hit this year at the box office. Maybe they are a little more willing to put decent films out there in hopes of generating more movie goers.

Thats why it's good to avoid the indecent films and support the good ones.

I saw this movie tonight. It was very, very good. And very moving. I'm looking forward to reading the book, and several others about this story.

It's safe for pre-teen and up. (IMO) The violence (spearing) was done in such a way so that it was not horrificly graphic. You do see some people with spears in them, and some blood, but nothing like the popular violence you see in all the other shows and movies today. And of course, no swearing or sex.

End of the Spear is going to be a great movie.. The only problem the Steve Saint (I met him in person and talked to him about it) is that if people don't go and see it in the first few weeks the box office will kiss it 'goodbye' So I want to encourage you to get your friends together and see it... Oh and Steve also shared that half of the money earned from this movie is going to be given towards the tribe so that they may be able to make more movies and also train them. the other half of the proceedes will be given to the director so that he can make more of these movies!! Didn't know if maybe ya'll would like to know this..
