Are they really necessary?

People learning each other's name naturally through dialogue seems more natural, and fine to me. Why make church into a group-therapy-like environment?

I politely refuse nametags. I don't need one to be a Christian or even go to church.

Only the staff at our church wears one. I wear mine. I greet at the door. So it is good when new people come in. We pretty much know everyone anyway. We are a small community.

But anyhow, I don't mind either way.

I just want to do all I can for the Lord.

I never heard of name tags but do not see a problem..

You would have to show me one ...

I kind of think it a nice idea..

Imagine walking into a church and seeing someones name and getting to say "Hello Mary/Joe it is so nice to meet you." Instead of "Hi there" with a big question between you...

And when you speak someones name it feels much more personal..

In my church we use them and for me it is great, we also give them to our new visitors this helps me because I don't have to wait to be introduced. Sometimes we have people come in and they don't know anyone so our name tags are a big plus. we even went so far as to see they don't ruin your clothes by using ones that you don't have to pin to yourclothes. It also helps me to place a face on member who name I know is in the church book but I haven't seen him or her for a long period of time. Love in Christ littlejoe

Our church uses them and there have been many times when visitors say how much they appreciate it because it helps them to remember names more easily.

I have seen name tags used on the members of a few ministries I watch on TV and I have often wondered about them. I guess I don't go to a mega church and there really isn't a need for them, but if there should come a day that the leadership of my Church feels that it is necessary, I will gladly submit to their decision.

You are in my prayers.

I personally don't like to wear a name tag and would if it were necessary. But, honestly I never liked name tags on me.

I would not be in favor of giving them to new people, unless it was very comfortably-clear it was not anything, but, voluntary. Because I think it might make them very uncomfortable.

What brought the question up ?
