There are two places in the Old Testament where celebrating birthdays by GOds people are thought to be mentioned that I read long ago. I do not recall where and will be looking again for them for reasons of a cult that forbids my relatives to celebrate anything including their birthdays. I remember one was something about ..."it was on his day" (there was a feast given etc and he went off alone and talking to God was regretting the day he was born etc.(He was depressed, another issue not about this point here)

I find nothing wrong with celebrating a life from God, it is NOT worship to celebrate a persons birthday.

The Worship is of Jesus which HE is fully worthy to be worshipped should be forever and always !

Guess we'd better play it safe and not celebrate anything.

Ever.

Shalom Cobalt,

LOL! Like that's gonna happen! :P

Saves me much money if my children do not celebrate birthdays. Oh tell it to my wife as well

It seems that the Early Christians (Christians who lived after Christ, to the year of the Nicaean Creed) simply did not celebrate their birthdays, unlike most of the pagans at the time. Are birthday celebrations inherantly pagan?

After reading this article, the question is, should Christians be celebrating their own birthdays? If you ask me, I think too much pride is involved in birthdays, it almost seems un-Biblical, except for one birthday in particular; the Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. We should all be humble, and not filled with pride.

So, should Christians celebrate their birthdays? There doesn't seem to be a reason why we should, according to the Bible...

Also, I'll let all of you in on something, I don't like celebrating my own birthday, apart from that it is just too embarrassing, I just don't think it's Biblical. Correct me on this if possible.

Thank you, and may the Lord bless you all.

Yes! God tells us to enjoy life to the fullest an abundantly! Why not celebrate God's gifts? As long as it doesn't show pride or arrogance or that you put yourself above God, or worship yourself more than God. I personally see no harm in it. I came from a family that didn't celebrate Birthdays. For years of growing up I recognized my Birthday to be on my Father's Birthday and his on mine because we were 2 days apart in date. When I married my wife began a small tradition of cake and party and we've continued it ever since. It also shows someone elses' appreciation for you and visa versa.

When you get to my age, a birthday is NOTHING to celebrate over, believe me!

Ahhh..........to be young again!

...pass the anti-ageing cream, someone :P

Ah excuse me sweets you are as young as you feel - look at me, I don't feel a day over 60. Btw I always tend to forget my birthday (and everyone elses) until someone has to remind me so it seems everyone except me is celebrating my birthday.

On a more serious note there are two scriptural references to birthdays but not in the context of celebration, I would agree with the consensus that there is no biblical reference to not celebrating one's birthday.

In the event that the PM talks about "pagan" in the sense that people have been celebrating their birthday's long before the birth of the Master then he is right and if we use the 25th of December as the day of His birth (which is probably erroneous) then what does it matter - it is a great matter for celebration.

Sorry, wandering off the subject matter again................ :noidea:

I believe personal conviction because if one is putting himself before the greater purpose then this is wrong - we after all are asked to die to ourselves

The early Christians didn't drive cars or have hot showers, either. What they did or did not do can't always be your guide. Besides, how can you get presents unless you celebrate your birthday????? :whistling:

Shalom,

It is not a Scriptural issue, it is one of personal conviction.

If one does not choose to celebrate his or her OWN birthday, that is their right. But to ask if ALL Christians should celebrate their birthdays is not something one person can decide for another.

I rejoice in the birth of the Messiah. In fact, we PARTY!! It is a JOYFUL, wonderful thing to celebrate. And I love to celebrate my children's birthdays and thank G-d for them.

As for myself, speaking as one who has survived almost certain death by cancer, my birthdays are a time to show the mercy of G-d in preserving my life. My birthday is a TESTIMONY to Him and His mercy in letting me live. You'd better believe we celebrate it! In fact, I just turned 51 a few days ago!!!!!!!!!! Yipppppppppeeeeeeeeeeee and praise the L-rd!

Praise the LORD! AMEN! :whistling: Happy Birthday! :74_74:

That's amazing. I can imagine that birthdays would take on a whole new level of significance given a near brush with death.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
