I really like Harry Potter. There no foul language, nobody jumping in the sack with someone they are not married to. It ranks a 9.5 on my scale of good clean films. What I do not like are the shows that teach kids to have sex as often as they can with whomever they can. I liked Buffy The Vampire Slayer until she started jumpin' in the sack with every demon that came along.

Yes, there is some bad stuff on TV and in the movies. If you are convicted by it, then do not watch.

I think that is the point being made. We, as adults, have become desensitized over time so we are not offended by what we see. Yet, the kids, who are not, are being exposed to this type of behavior and acceptance. We are allowing the planting of such seeds to happen. This is how it all starts.

Its just as likely that some people are overly-sensitive. Why do I hafta be classified as "desensitized" like I have some sort of mental disorder? Maybe I am just more balanced than some people. Its not like this stuff started with Hollywood...its been around forever. And kids are exposed to this stuff whether they watch tv or not...its in the world. I suppose we could keep them locked in closets....

Ax, being desensitized is not a mental disorder. Is this your way of trying to gain an upper hand by demoralizing another persons thought?

So, is that what you call good Christian ethics that follow scripture, over sensitive? Hmmm ... makes me wonder if your job has exposed you to too much of the world to know how to not be conformed to it? I have to say that I personally don't see your idea as "more balanced" at all. But, you are right on one thing, stuff has been around for a long time, but there are a few things you fail to mention.

First, this stuff was not publicized through the airwaves as it is today, or in movies. You were not even born when clean programs were the norm. Today, it is not normal unless it would of been banned when I was a kid.

Secondly, what has been coming out since you were born has progressively gotten sicker, full of sin. If you can't see that, then maybe you have been desensitized but just have not realized it. Do you really think God is OK with what is being shown over the airwaves or in the movies? How about the music? Or are you one who believes that God is not interested in this kind of stuff? :noidea:

Oh yes, and this comment ... " suppose we could keep them locked in closets...." ... to coin one of your phrases ... just say no!

I am surprised you didn't mention the witchcraft. Is that something that we should allow our kids to think is normal, acceptable and pleasing to God?

Would you mind listing some of those programs?

I've seen a few Colombo episodes, and even they seemed clean. Pretty good for the line of work he was in. Wasn't Kojak pretty clean as well?

LOL... I was not attempting to demoralize your thought, but rather defending myself from a label like "desensitized." Then you take a step further and make it personal by wondering if I even know how to not be conformed to the world...because of my job???? LOL, what do you know about my job and how it affects my life or my walk with Christ?

I was not calling you or anyone else over-sensitive. I was making the counterpoint that if some people are desensitized, then it is just as likely that some people are over-sensitive. There has to be a balance. I would be more interested in knowing why you don't think "my idea" is more balanced because all I've said is that there is good stuff to watch and that I enjoy watching tv. Thats more balanced than saying all TV is garbage and people who watch are desensitized.

I also totally agree with your point that tv is alot more prevalent than in the past. I made that point before. All tv does is bring it to light...its not like back in the day we could pretend that this stuff wasn't happening in the world because we didn't see it. Now we see it and we can't keep our heads in the sand and pretend that none of this garbage is happening in the real world. TV is simply a reflection. You can't blame the mirror just because we don't like what we see in it.

I think God clearly would object to some stuff that is on tv, or at the movies. We may, or may not, agree to what that "stuff" is though.. :emot-hug:

TV's, DVD's, CD's, Movies, Books, Computers and such are just tools. We can use them for good or for bad. It is our choice how we use them. They are not bad by themselves. It is how they are put to use that is either right or wrong. We can either use them for sin or we can use them to glorify God! The choice is ours to make.

i agree with this. i can live without tv though. i used to live with my friend and she has 2 tvs and we hardly watched it. i just always find something else better to do. but when i do watch, i like watching food network and the travel shows, among others.

however, when i am on vacation in my brother's house, i have movie marathons. i can lock myself up in my room and watch movies all day! i guess it's because i don't have much to do in houston! :emot-hug:

south

Oh, south, when you're in Houston there are a million things to do and see. I hope you don't spend your next visit by yourself. This is a huge and very busy city and Galveston is only 15 miles away. :emot-hug:

This is where we disagree.

I believe the media has propagated the problem.

Who loves ya baby! lol who can forget that line from a baldheaded lollipop toting cop! lol No Kojak wasn't always clean but what was there was subtle and only those who mostly adults would have gotten the meanings. Hollywood has always pushed the limits, its never been a friendly place for christians or any other faith group. That is unless ya believe the stories that the Jewish folk are running it! :emot-hug::emot-hug:

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
