Okay, maybe I'm just getting too old to 'get it' or I'm not on the same wavelength as others but.....good grief! Like most of you, I pay for cable television. Lately I've been asking myself 'why?' There is nothing on the airwaves I want to watch so I sat down and looked into what's out there and I came up with the following.....

'Dirty Jobs' Gross and disgusting ways to make a living.

'Intervention' The saddest, most dysfunctional people I've ever seen.

'American Pickers' Basically, they're junk men.

'Pawn Stars' They run a pawn shop. :noidea: (Truthfully, at first I thought it was 'Porn Stars'! That may be next.)

'Keeping up with the Kardashians' Really low class, foul mouthed women who seem to do nothing but argue and disrespect their mother.

'Deadliest Catch' They're fishermen.....okay, it's a hard job but is it entertainment?

'Ice Road Truckers' They drive trucks over icy roads.

'Kate Plus 8' A boring single mother with eight kids (kids are cute but hardly entertainment.)

'Gangland' A running commentary on various types of gangs and how most of them get killed.

'The Real Housewives of .......insert city name here' Really spiteful, foul mouthed, completely fake women who sit around and insult each other.

"Jersey Shore' Unattractive, fashion challenged, amoral young people who do nothing except curse, drink and sleep together.

'Hoaders; Buried Alive' People who keep every single thing they come in contact with, have 75 cats and live in filth so deep it requires a bulldozer to clean their house.

And that's not even close to all.....I read today that the Salahis (White House crashers) and this flight attendant who released the plane's emergency chute (he was arrested) are going to have their own shows too.

Who watches this stuff? I've never watched more than five minutes of any of the above and never will. Is it the economy? It's cheaper to hire those that aren't famous for anything? Or is it that Americans want this? And what about you that live in other countries? Is this happening everywhere? :noidea:

No need to pay or pay very to watch tv. Better still no tv at all as there is radio, books, pc and other alternatives. Books are best as you can borrow them from the library.

Dont be dissing Deadliest Catch!

I love that show.

Those guys are crab fishermen in the most inhospitable place. A deadly job. Ive got a new respect for those who catch the crab I love to eat (when I can afford it).

Dirty Jobs is educational. Some of these jobs you never heard of or thought of. And not all jobs are gross - they just involve getting dirty - coal mine, charcoal maker, bakery (getting covered in flour and such), etc. One time he was out working with soldiers in the field.

Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers aren't show I have watched, but they give us a look into the real lives of people working some dangerous, potentially fatal, jobs. Again, these are educational.

Now those other things . . . yeah, I agree with you there!

MG needs a chat addiction  . Then one day you will wake up and realise you have lost the remote control, haven't seen it for three weeks, and you don't even care :taped: .

I agree! Cable is all garbage. Lately I've been having a hard time watching any of it because it gives me anxiety. I just watch the history channel or a cartoon with my son.

I've watched Deadliest Catch, and was amazed to find out how dangerous it is to get those delicious king crabs that I love to eat.

The TV only gets turned on when Fez is at home. But we watch a lot of shows together, mostly in the Discovery Channel, History Channel and National Geographic (mostly shows about the wild).

We also enjoy watching those design shows like Design U and a show with this guy Ambrose Price who ventures into different design stuff when he doesn't really know how to but learns during the show. It is very entertaining and educational. The guy is so funny.

There's also this show called "Escape to the Country" where couples living in the city decide to move to the countryside and a real estate agent shows them three houses to choose from. The mystery house is always interesting to see.

We also enjoy watching "How Stuff Are Made" where they feature different products and how they are made in factories. It's very interesting to see the mechanized processes.

One show I really like and Fez has no choice  but to watch as well is "Dancing with the Stars". I love watching people dance. I used to love Dance Fever when I was a kid.

And last night, we enjoyed watching "Total Wipeout". It's a UK game show copied from a Japanese show where people have to go from point A to point B but to get there they have to go through many obstacles. What people have to endure to win 10,000 pounds!

On Saturdays, Fez is into his rugby games if we are home. I'm getting the hang of it as well.

I agree that there's a lot of garbage on TV, but there are also a lot of good ones. Most of the ones mentioned by MG are also shown here, but we never bother with them. I used to watch Korean soaps but I think Americans will find them boring.

Blessings...South

Yep... you just discovered what I found out about 4 years ago.... We have a satellite with zillions of channels. I haven't watched 1/4 of them. I like the history channel, National Geography, Mystery channel (Mystery Woman, Monk, Agatha Christie movies); I enjoy the HGTV channels that show you how to do outdoor and indoor projects around your home. I love watching cooking and food shows.... and when college football starts - we get some really good games. Sports are good- I've been known to get caught up in a good tennis match or golf game. There are several Public TV shows I like - This Old House reruns and Victory Garden. We also get Sirius radio and sometimes I just have that on while I'm reading.

The vast audience of t.v. viewers for some reason are enthralled with the likes of what you described.... in an effort to get ratings and satiate this vile appetite for the disgusting - they will give anyone ready to throw away all dignity in the hopes of becoming "famous" a "reality" show. There was a show that we rather enjoyed about CEO's of major corporations going "undercover" in their own corporations and getting low on the totem pole jobs and work from the other end of the spectrum. I thought it was pretty original and people in management actually learned a lot and many of them made significant changes in their corporate policies. Aside from that one prime-time offering ... I just don't watch the junk posing as entertainment. I find as I walk closer with Christ - I am repulsed by ugliness of people fighting and cursing and just being hateful. That's not entertainment in my opinion.

We very seldom watch television lately due to the nature of the content. Even Disney channel sometimes leaves me cringing, take the Twitches for example, not exactly 'good' healthy viewing for a child.

I really do not see the point of watching the 'reality' programmes such as Survivor, Big Brother etc - they are mostly filled with foul-mouthed individuals who behave in an extremely immoral manner.

I enjoy watching the cooking shows, national geographic and The Dog Whisperer. Other than that we go to the Christian Channels and watch that.

Well we( the wife ,son and I ), quit watching TV when everything went digital...There is one analog station left out of Akron that plays all the old shows, but even these are boring, except things like the Cisco Kid and the Lone Ranger.

Although we are movie addicts and subscribe to Netflix.

Reality shows do absolutely nothing for me, but I would enjoy watching " How it's made " or something like that, a friend tells me about it. Now that sounds interesting.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
