For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

One can even inherit a spirit of fear through the genes (generations) or through trauma in life circumstances.

Yes I do believe it is a spirit

and God can deliver us from it.

It begins with learning to place our trust in God.

The more we place our trust in God and do our best to live by His Word, the less this spirit of fear can take over.

Everyday we need to put on the Armor of God . Ephesians 6,

because the devil is always looking like a roaring lion to whom it can attack and devour.

satan likes to get your goat,

satan is the greatest oil snake salesman that exists,

satan knows our weaknesses and comes in whatever form it can to weaken us, dupe us,  so to make us its prey.

Its purpose is always to steal, kill and destroy.

satan comes to tempt us through the mind and from the mind attacks the body.

John 10:10

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.

But God is greater and like you quoted from Holy Scripture, God has not given us a spirit of fear.

The root of fear is the root of many illnesses.

all forms of MI are based on fears.

The only entry way satan has is through our minds, once in our minds it begins to attack us like a virus.

Anger, resentments, and fear go together.

When we hold resentments, we are not letting go, we are not forgiving.Resentments, means re-living over and over past hurts real or imagined, its work the imaginings. Gods wants us delivered from these imaginings, from these resentments that create fear.

From these resentments we hold unto, we feel guilty, try to hide our guilt of keeping resentments by different means, and fear sets in.

God wants us to let go of these

and let Him deal with them.

Perfect love cast out fear.

Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespasser against us.

The anti virus is Christ Jesus , The Word of God and the Holy Spirit working in our hearts.

Whenever you feel an attack :  call on God

Psalm 91:15

"Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.

15"He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him

16"With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation."

Psalm 50:15

14"Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving And pay your vows to the Most High; 15Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me." 16But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to tell of My statutes And to take My covenant in your mouth?…

Isaiah 58:9

8"Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will speedily spring forth;

And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

9"Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; You will cry, and He will say,

'Here I am.' If you remove the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness, 10And if you give yourself to the hungry And satisfy the desire of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness And your gloom will become like midday.…

God through His only begotten Son Christ Jesus can deliver us from all manner of evil.

This includes fear and anger, resentments.

Now there is a normal  'caution fear' that is built into us to protect us.

And their is a normal anger also to help protect us.

And then there is an unhealthy type fear and anger that only keeps us away form God and closer to living in the flesh.

It always begins by working on our imaginings, it does not come from  God.

2 Corinthians 10:5

4for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 5We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,

The same is with hunger and the use of food, there is a healthy way and a way that abuses and keeps us living in the flesh over the spirit.

The same with sex.

and then there are other addictions = That enslaves us and sometimes unto death.

Every new high brings a new low, and that low many times is fueled by fear and anger.

This is not how God intended for us to live.

He came to deliver us from all manner of sin and sickness

The spirit of fear needs to be rebuked in the blood name of Christ Jesus.

As many times as it comes to attack and overwhelm you call on the name of Christ Jesus, rebuke that spirit in his Holy name,

use the Word of God always as your weapon of defense like: No weapon use against me shall prosper.

The more one can place their trust in God and His word through a daily relationship with Him, the more He can work in us, and the more we see our faith grow.

We are called to be overcomers

Romans 8:37

37But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.

1John 5:1-5

Who is he that overcome the world, but he that believe the Christ Jesus is the Son of God

John 8:36

36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

"The spirit of fear" should not be taken to mean a demonic spirit but rather the fearful attitudes which are created by the Roaring Lion (Satan) to intimidate believers.  When all else fails, the Devil attacks us through a variety of circumstances which generate fears, all of which pertain to loss and destruction.  As you mentioned, "our weak spots" are where he attacks us.  Therefore God has given Christians the armor and weapons of spiritual warfare.  They are "mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds".  Go through the Bible and look for all the commands from God which say "Fear not".

Fear is not a spirit. We are to fear God so fear cannot be a spirit.

However certain demonic spirits can invoke fear and there probably is such thing as a spirit of fear.

You have to have trust and faith and give that fear to God.

Question: "What does the Bible say about fear?"

Answer:
The Bible mentions two specific types of fear. The first type is beneficial and is to be encouraged. The second type is a detriment and is to be overcome. The first type of fear is fear of the Lord. This type of fear does not necessarily mean to be afraid of something. Rather, it is a reverential awe of God; a reverence for His power and glory. However, it is also a proper respect for His wrath and anger. In other words, the fear of the Lord is a total acknowledgement of all that God is, which comes through knowing Him and His attributes.

Fear of the Lord brings with it many blessings and benefits. It is the beginning of wisdom and leads to good understanding (Psalm 111:10). Only fools despise wisdom and discipline (Proverbs 1:7). Furthermore, fear of the Lord leads to life, rest, peace, and contentment (Proverbs 19:23). It is the fountain of life (Proverbs 14:27) and provides a security and a place of safety for us (Proverbs 14:26).

Thus, one can see how fearing God should be encouraged. However, the second type of fear mentioned in the Bible is not beneficial at all. This is the “spirit of fear” mentioned in2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (NKJV). A spirit of fearfulness and timidity does not come from God.

However, sometimes we are afraid, sometimes this “spirit of fear” overcomes us, and to overcome it we need to trust in and love God completely. “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). No one is perfect, and God knows this. That is why He has liberally sprinkled encouragement against fear throughout the Bible. Beginning in the book of Genesis and continuing throughout the book of Revelation, God reminds us to “Fear not.”

For example,Isaiah 41:10encourages us, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Often we fear the future and what will become of us. But Jesus reminds us that God cares for the birds of the air, so how much more will He provide for His children? “So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:31). Just these few verses cover many different types of fear. God tells us not to be afraid of being alone, of being too weak, of not being heard, and of lacking physical necessities. These admonishments continue throughout the Bible, covering the many different aspects of the “spirit of fear.”

InPsalm 56:11the psalmist writes, “In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” This is an awesome testimony to the power of trusting in God. Regardless of what happens, the psalmist will trust in God because he knows and understands the power of God. The key to overcoming fear, then, is total and complete trust in God. Trusting God is a refusal to give in to fear. It is a turning to God even in the darkest times and trusting Him to make things right. This trust comes from knowing God and knowing that He is good. As Job said when he was experiencing some of the most difficult trials recorded in the Bible, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15 NKJV).

Once we have learned to put our trust in God, we will no longer be afraid of the things that come against us. We will be like the psalmist who said with confidence “…let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you” (Psalm 5:11).

I believe that it IS a spirit and it's one that affects all of us at one time or the other.  The good news is that, since it's a spirit of the enemy, it can be rebuked and removed from our lives. Ask the Lord to take it from you.  I will pray for you to overcome the fear, LadyKay.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

[For a long period in my life, I was been tormented with fearfull thoughts , I had lost my sleep, I would leave the lights on all the time, I would close all the windows and doors, my behavior and actions shows that I was trying to protect my self from something, even afraid to go out of my home, thinking all the time that I am oppress by evil spirits that won't leave me along, rebuking all the time, full of anxieties, even that my cloths and objects in my home were possed by demons and I throw them away, I become very sensitive to sin asking forgiveness all the time, as not to open the door to evil spirits and so on....The door cricks from the wind and fearfull thoughts take over and torment me, some marks on the wall on the fllor I see them as insects, ...... I would look at people and I thing they will hurm me, withought discrision.

In the scripture you referring to, the word is not fear, in this situation is timidity , Timothy had found himself with people from different culture than his, him been young and having to deal with elders and more mature people, and on that culture people are guided by the elders of their community , so he felt indimidated, discourage, to much chalenge for him and he wanted to quit.

So Paul was trying to tell him develop a healthy positive mind and attitude , like some times in the work place- job insecurity-- relationship with the people around us --feeling we need to change inviroment,....Paul was suggesting, take hold of yourself, develop thought that will create a new persaption to see things different around you, a sound persaption thinking reasoning , a healthier mind, change points of view,

I am sorry, I mean to help out of my experience ,

In my case I had demonic attacks at the same time, cause I had thoughts they were not mine.

And I acted on them, I follow them or I obey them, and I agree with them, because they were tell me, rebuke the devil, and develop anxieties in me,

Can you beleive it the demon was telling me rebuke the devil, just to torment me, some times the demons make me feel unafraid, and I took unspoken risk, from one extreme to the other,

One day I heard a voice within me "stay still, don't react, don't follow, don't beleive what is happening around you, don't rebuke, just stay still, don't draw in to it, gradually every thing went away, now I can think about it and I am not afraid, I laugh,

And the T.V. And the news and the violence, that was terrible, now nothing's bothering me not even horror movies,

Sorry I mix up the quote system.]

My question is could fear be a spirit that comes into out lives. I feel afraid all the time. I know I shouldn't but I do. I don't want too. I wonder if fear can be a spirit and if I am being attacked by it. We all have our weak spots where the devil knows he can hurt us. Fear is my weakness.

There are several different fears.

Some are great, I reverently "fear" God. :)

I properly respect and "fear" heights when working with them. The first time years ago when connecting a swing scaffolding cable some 220' up in the air while hanging off the edge of the roof on an "I" beam comes to mind! :o

As Christians, we should not be fearful or cowardly in reaching the lost. May we grow much in His True power, love, and a sound mind. Stirring up the various gifts God has given us all. (2Tim1:6) We are not to be ashamed of our testimony for Christ our Lord, nor of those even today in bonds for preaching or standing on His Word. (2Tim1:8)

2Ti 1:6-8
(6)  Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
(7)  For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
(8)  Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

On occasion I've had a demonic "spirit of fear" jump out of nowhere for no reason what so ever, other than hoping I would yield.
I've simply told it to go in the name of Jesus Christ, and it immediately has.
I don't rejoice in them fleeing, but I rather rejoice that my name is written in heaven:

Luk 10:20  Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Go on to look to fill our minds with the Truth as represented in the Bible, cleansing ourselves from the filth of the flesh and spirit as we grow in Christ and His Word, reverently fearing Him instead of demonic fear or any ungodly fear of man, which works in conjunction with the demonic spiritual side.
May we learn to stand fast with Christ our Lord and leave the idols of the past behind. May we also "come out from among them" that being the world, whether it be on the outside, or inside a false church system.
Leave the old lies of the past behind, and go forth with God loving God first and foremost. He then dwells and walks with us as His sons and daughters! :)

2Co 6:16-18
(16)  And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(17)  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
(18)  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

2Co 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

In continuing in growth of our Savior, ungodly fear will become less, as He becomes more in our lives:

1Jn 4:18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
