The Apostle Paul predicted that the gift of tongues would cease 1 Corinthians 13:8. God still does perform miracles today, the Holy Spirit no longer uses individuals to perform miraculous gifts.

I also do not support the Charismatic movement.

Neither am i charismatic i am non denominational etc,    simply christian.

I agree with you that that the gifts will cease ,surely that would be when that which is perfect is come.(Christ).vs 10.

When He returns we will have no need of the gifts, they were for the building up of the church. .they will cease.

Till then i find the gifts are still available ,notably we still have knowledge ,least i think i still got some,..

peace

On the contrary we should support the gift of tongue if we want to follow early disciples, instead of becoming Theologians, while Times still given.

You see below funny picture ? The woman portrayed most Theologian christians who squeezed a man with the door. Which means preachers of Holy Spirit baptism is banished like annoying salesman. Are we even Worthy ???

paul speaking in corinthians to the church wished we all spake in tongues, surely thats  NT. i find nothing explicit written  that would end it.

I agree, in that I have not seen a command to cease speaking in tongues.
I think Paul said forbid it not. I personally do not speak in tongues.
Nor have I ever had the desire to. Specifically, from having witnessed those that do.
I have the spirit of God dwelling within me, completely.
There are times I grieve or quench Him, and times I'm immersed/filled in His holy presence.
I talk to the spirit, the Holy Spirit, God, in English. He understands me.

I thoroughly do not  believe  that speaking in tongues is any evidence/proof of being born again ( 'Christian' ).
Speaking only for myself, my experiences with those speaking in tongues caused me great concern.
I know only two believers/friends that told me they speak in tongues, but they do it privately, at home.
And not on a studio/church stage for a performance publicly.

I have never witness an interpreter give evidence of interpreting.
I do not know, personally, any one else who has, in my lifetime.

Concerning the OP, if you do not have the spirit of God dwelling within you, you are lost and need Jesus.
God's presence within is made aware/evidenced, when scriptures being read come alive, flooding your spirit within, confirming.
The greatest evidence(for me) is what/who I was does not exist anymore. He is dead. On the cross. A new child has been born.

Do all "Christians" have the Holy Spirit? How do you know that you are indwelt with the Holy Spirit?

Hi Peeps-you answered the first part of your question yourself-lol

Quote

Only a genuine born again Christian. Many are Christian in name only.

One way one knows they are Indwelt by Holy Spirit is by the FRUIT they are bearing.....

Quote

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” Those who are in Christ are distinguished from unbelievers in that they have been gifted with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to bear fruit.

God's Word is what The Holy Spirit uses in these last days to build His Church... whenever His Word becomes more precious to you than your necessary food then you have begun on the narrow path of life... whenever you actually see obedience to His Word's precepts requiring self-denial and you experience the doing so anyway >(without the work itself being anything to consider)< only the satisfaction of Love for God in the essence of His Word the motive and fulfillment-> then you have The Holy Spirit's witness that you are God's child...
John 14:21 (KJV)

[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

That manifestation is the transmission of what the Word says into the heart and mind of His children...

Whenever that which is created becomes more of a reliance then The Word of God then you have left the narrow path and are journeying on the broad path that leads to cessation of substance... New birth can only feed on The Word of God and good nutrition is key to a healthy s/Spiritual body able to mature in the precepts and understanding of the everlasting ...

You want to be assured that you are known by God then fill yourself with His Word for it is written He knows said Word:
Luke 2:46 (KJV)

[46] And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

[47] And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

this at age twelve...

The completed promise of God to us:
John 15:15 (KJV)

[15] Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Matthew-Revelation
the completed Word from The Father holds the eternal forming of s/Spiritual life into the everlasting as His Word has taught us... knowing all this is stated and true from God's Word (Whom cannot lie) this
2 Timothy 3:15 (KJV)

[15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

If you do not understand the sufficiency of Scripture and are relying on experiences, intuitions, feelings you are not on the narrow path of His Word... but on the broad path of cessation of substance...

Why is a discussion about the Holy Spirit almost always directed to speaking in tongues when that gift was one of the very least of all the gifts whether you believe it is relevant today or not?

Why can't we focus on the OP?

I believe I have the Holy Spirit but lightening never hit me while I was sitting on the toilet ( this was an actual story told by someone for how they were filled with the spirit).

Whenever a charismatic speaks it sounds like someone is trying to sprinkle fairy dust among us. I don't want fairly dust. I want the real deal. No fu fu talk. :)

Maybe some need their “heart”softened just that bit more.

If it's the real deal, then Baptists and Methodists and Presbyterians all have it too. It is not exclusive of only the Charismatic movement. And yes, it comes off to me like almost new age pie in the sky talk. Sorry. Though I was not singling you out.

The charismatics come up a lot in these talks and they are NOT exclusive to any of it. Never have been. Never will be. They do however tend to talk about the spirit like it's magic fairy dust.

A study of the Holy Spirit is just as substantial as any other study. Nothing necessarily more 'out there' than any other.

A tender heart.

it wasn’t lighting that hit me....it was the Love Of Christ .

If you lost the ability to speak in tongues would it change your relationship with God and if so in what way?

Did I say any different about Baptist’s, and Methodists?

i do not belong to any Charismatic Movement...I am Charismatic because Christ lives in me...

I’m Alive in Christ , he’s alive in me, he’s not dead.

We speak of the Lord in great Love and great fullness...we are full of the Spirit, if people get jealous of that, then I’m sorry ...we can’t help the way we are, we have a tender, loving and grateful heart.

All Glory goes to God....for without him we would / are dead.

God means everything to me, if that’s fufu talk...then that’s fine by me,🙏

Once again my statements were not directed at you, but at that movement in general.

No one is jealous, at least I'm not. I think the C movement raises the bar so high that it isn't attainable.

You are so full of love yet in another post I remember reading you lost your temper the other day. We all do that occasionally because we are all only human.

Lubby dubby can occasionally be trubby trubby.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
