Does the Spirit temporarily leave? The fruit of the Spirit doesn't include hate/anger/bitterness.

Because we're human and we still have the sinful nature. Unrighteous anger doesn't come from the Holy Spirit, but no Christian keeps in perfect step with the Spirit all of the time, even though He lives in us. We all stumble (James 3:2). We should repent when we mess up and keep going forward (1 John 1:9, 2:1).

As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear Him. For He knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:13,14)

And no, the Holy Spirit does not "temporarily leave"--ever. If He does leave someone, He never comes back. But He doesn't leave whenever we sin and come back when we repent!

I've been saved about 35 yrs and I still get this way but not as much as I used to. Furthermore it doesn't last as long. But being as ex-psychologist I learned something. Anger and depression are 2 sides of the same coin in the brain. The same chemicals cause them. I also noticed some people's brain's go back to normal much quicker than others. I never studied bitterness but I assume it's when we allow the anger to overwhelm us. When I'[m angry I want it gone but suppose you don't. That's probably when bitterness gets you and demons are probably involved. So pray is a good idea.

Jesus got angry several times that we are told of but how long did He stay angry. We aren't told but we can assume it wasn't very long, certainly not overnight. And Jesus was God but He was also human. Anger is part of being human but if you allow it to turn to hate and then bitterness now you're doing what devils want.

One of the saddest things is when parents teach their kids to hate and be bitter. But God can overcome that if you let Him.

Good question!

The answer, is that what we experience over a lifetime, actually occurs "in the twinkling of an eye." You see, when one is born again of the spirit of God, they enter the timelessness of God in spirit, but remain in the world of time in the flesh. But if you were to actually "walk in the spirit", time does not tick, nor does sinful behavior. But that is not our only purpose for being left within the world. We are left for good works for the salvation of future generations...but are left with the baggage of the past as a vehicle. It's kind of like buying a new car and then being stuck driving the old clunker every day but Sunday :)

Immaturity, flesh.......it means there is something that needs to be dealt with.  The good news is that Jesus can deal with it and He does answer our persistent prayers to change our hearts and deal with our shortcomings.......getting hold of the horns of the altar in prayer.......and if we confess our sins to Him, He IS faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from our unrighteousness.

That's right. We will experience perfection when we are in glory...not here.

Our part is to work out our salvation in the fear of the Lord.......we do need to deal with our shortcomings that we become aware of......seeking holiness in sincerity, wanting to please the Lord........running the race so as to win it.

Mat 7:18 WEB A good tree can’t produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree produce good fruit.  Mat 7:19  Every tree that doesn’t grow good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire. Mat 7:20  Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

Jhn 13:35  By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Heb 12:14  Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,  Heb 12:15  looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it;

There are people here who had been well respected.  Then some subject was touched upon that revealed sin in there lives and bitterness grew from it. One blamed the problem on other peoples sin and would not repent of his own.  They have grown in bitterness since then.  It is important that we be quick to forgive.  It is important that we not grieve the Holy Spirit in this way.  Should it be allowed to continue it becomes the leaven that ruins the whole lump and corrupts every aspect of their lives.  We need to love them anyhow.  God is giving them every opportunity to repent.  And we need to guard ourselves against bitterness toward anyone but forgive before the sun goes down.

Mat 18:21  Then Peter came and said to him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?” Mat 18:22  Jesus said to him, “I don’t tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven.

Mat 18:33  Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’ Mat 18:34  His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. Mat 18:35  So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.”

Why?

Example: someone's fiance gets killed by a drunk driver 2 weeks before they were to be married. Happened to one of my crew when I was in the Air Force . . . it was just before Thanksgiving, so there were both grieving families in town. Myself and several others took shifts keeping him company and praying because he was nearly (or perhaps was) suicidal. He recovered, but it was not a pleasant time. More than one believer fell to that temptation, although most of them came back eventually, one after almost 20 years, and there's one more left that has yet to come back. They seem to be softening from what I was told last time I heard from the family.

On the rest: What Yowm said.  :)

Sometimes we indulge anger because it satisfies the cravings of the fleshly old man that has yet to be fully crucified with Christ. We actually tend to enjoy bitterness because it seems by doing so, we are 'getting back' at those who antagonise us. We take God's place and role as the Mediator, and seek to inflict our own punishment on others...but in reality hurting only ourselves in the process. And sometimes we include God as our target of what we defend as our 'self-righteous indignation'. No-one else cares, not even the ones who have hurt us; they may not even be aware of our bitterness and anger, until we vent and then they wonder huh? What's that all about? They've forgotten...it is you who have let things simmer and boil.

Even in major cases of abuse and harm that others may have inflicted upon us, the answer is the same as in small cases. The answer is death to self.

Oh, and it is never God's fault. (Even though I don't think He minds if we vent at Him regarding all the perceived injustices we suffer. At least we are engaging Him in our battles, and giving Him the opportunity to set us straight.)

So many things have changed since the Bible was written even a genius can't put it all together. As to the original question, no the Holy Spirit never leaves a real Christian but that doesn't mean nothing bad will happen to you.

Since you guys are discussing irrational anger, the kind that makes no sense and ruins lives, I've learned a new thing. This thing can't even be diagnosed while a person is alive. If you have a mind for medical science google CTE. It's very complex. It doesn't answer Why God let it happen to my loved one, he/she was 1 of the best this world had to offer. Not everyone is a Job, and gets back more than they lost. Oh, if only we were all like Job. I only have 1 reason God allows this. This life is 1 big test. To pass it you have to be be like Job and never turn against God, regardless of what happens. I worry more about folks who's life is a bowl of cherries. But then a famous, rich person commits suicide. We never find out why. If suicide was a guarantee of eternal life we would all do it. But the more I study the Bible the more I don't think so. To the great infinite God, the One who has always existed and knows the end from the beginning, to Him who doesn't know time as we do, our lives are like a blink of an eye. We think 90 yrs is a long time to be miserable but He is offering a reward. The reward is a forever life in a paradise beyond human understanding. God can't just give that to anyone without a hard test. God doesn't relish putting His creations in hell so He had to make sure no one is tricking Him. Satan and his angels are still causing grief for poor God. Satan now has many people believing God is mean. God forgives man why not Lucifer. So he made a little mistake. We humans make worse mistakes. If you believe that you're in trouble. Lucifer walked and lived with God in the paradise no human has seen yet. Lucifer had the best of everything God offers but he attacked God anyway. But now he expects God to forgive him and believe he won't do it again. I wouldn't believe him. How can God be sure any human won't attack God if He gave the person immortality? The only way is to test them in this life.

For some of us this test is much harder than for others. I realize this my friends, but I don't know why. If God ever tells me I'll make a post, but for now I don't know. Physically some of us can handle more pain than others. Any doctor knows that. Perhaps that's a hint. Some children scream if they can't get a new doll, others just want mommy's love, is that a hint. We weren't created the same. Esau sold his birth right for soup. Jacob didn't get such a good deal neither. I wonder if he could have done it. Jacob worked 7 years for Rachel only to learn he was tricked. (I know this is so confusing) He was given Leah who wasn't bad but he loved Rachel. He then had to work another 7 years. Life was never easy.

I know someone with CTE. When she was young she'd give you the shirt on her back. Now she won't answer the phone. There's no treatment so why make her more miserable. To understand CTE you have to be almost a doctor and a neurosurgeon at that. Btw, I'm a Christian and so is my friend. I expect to see her in eternity.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
