To add insult to injury, my wife watched Twister, an older movie with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, a few days ago. Yeah, that’s entertainment, alright.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the city sewer system lift pumps did not have emergency electric backup. Guess what kind of explosions some homes endured?

That weatherman in Twister was our KWTV weatherman.

If we are out of water, I keep 70 gallons in the fresh water tank in the RV for bathroom stuff. And we have the portapotty we use in the boat for emergencies.  That's assuming the tornado didn't blow that away too.

I question if it is faith-based to be prudent in protecting yourself and your family when you see potential danger in life and limbs on the horizon, and prepare a defense.

Of course it is. Jesus told His disciples to go and buy a sword if they didn't have one.

As far as a tornado shelter goes, just making a small, crawl-into depression in the ground, and covering it with a concrete slab, is all you would really need in an emergency. Be creative. Or have a slab poured, and then hire someone to tunnel under it.

Praise God brother Marathoner!

Yup you are right...thank you for the reminder...He is my identity, my provision, my protection and my life!

No tornadoes here, but I have been in extreme heat, hurricanes, blizzards, haboobs, thick fog, monsoon, and microbursts. Thats enough for me.

I see nothing scripturally wrong with seeking shelter or whatever is needed in weather.

Well . . . I live in SE Michigan which is the upper/last part of the alley. So, we have tornados and left-over storms coming up from the SW states.

I have stored water in 2 gal containers, and have a basement to go to should it get really rough. Many times though, we simply sit up in our living room and watch the storm and rain bands go by with outside furniture, tree limbs, and more (no flying cows yet though LOL). I have a small portable generator for powering refrigerators and limited lighting etc. as well as non perishable food canned over summer months and gardening etc.

Lately the winters seem more severe than normal with ice storms being the greater threat. The last one wiped out many state forests in upper lower Michigan with many trails being unsafe due to falling trees etc. and homes being severely damaged as well.

Even IF I don't need my preparations, I can help those around me who might need help.

Wow! If a truck is coming at you and you know it…do you not move?

I am certain it would very much displease the Lord if not. If a tree is falling on you, do you move?

Seriously.

Of course. I would not want a collision to happen as this would affect more than just myself. Apart from one occasion, it's within my power to avoid such things. However, I never saw the tractor trailer hauling road equipment while it split my car like a can opener. It only registered after the fact. I remained miraculously untouched.

Yes. I'm not sure what either example has to do with the topic at hand, brother. The issue isn't being diligent to avoid trucks nor moving out of the way of a falling object, correct? It's about "prepping," something that is germane to those who have loved ones under their care (they have a "household" as it were). If I had a wife or others under a roof, I would strive to provide for them to the best of my ability. However, seeing as I do not, I'm not the least bit concerned about the entire prepping thing. Not only do I lack a permanent dwelling, but I've been a wanderer for all of my life. The Lord provides for me and always has. I'm not afraid of deprivation nor pain.

I work for the needy and the homeless. Focusing upon what the Lord sets in front of me to do is all I concern myself with.

Cool.  Concerned with the present needs of others, today. Doing the right thing as led. I had mostly thought about our family and their welfare I am responsible for, and considered troubled times and their welfare. But I also considered.
   Does our God live?

My thoughts on    'This Timely Subject'   discussion.

Perspective. The distant world/ near neighbors - lost/saved - family/strangers - old/young - Rich/poor- etc etc.

Hurricanes/floods/tornadoes/fires /droughts/tsunami/volcano eruptions/no toilet paper/pandemics/wars going on right now.

Today.
Our family used to live in the boonies (silence) where the closest neighbors were a quarter mile away and maybe a dozen within a few miles. We haven't moved, but now we are surrounded by city dweller sub divisions, thousands of them. And the traffic roar. Silence maybe at two AM in the morning. Thousands of city people wanting a country setting. Bringing their city and all the city problems with them.

Many yrs back when the kids were living at home we had cattle and chickens etc. and their chores would be the livestock. A big garden, two 1 acre stock tanks, a 400' deep water well with 5000 gal reservoir tank, and a couple of my son's generators. This subject came up, end times, food water shelter etc. Everybody knew if a tornado or inland hurricane path toward us, we have a 10' deep drop in a sand stone occasional stream with steep sides 15 seconds run to go to if things got serious. Never did.

But I got to thinking way back then about what we are now talking about here today and didn't like my conclusions. If the dung hits the fan and wide spread fear covers the land, world wide suffering, no water food med supplies etc, at least we would have a supply of chicken/beef/veggies/wild grapes etc. and a faithful water supply. My son's business at the time was military surplus and I acquired a bunch of MRE's (meals ready to eat) with 7yr shelf life, two AR's, a 45, 30-30, .17HMR, my pocket 380 and my wife's 38, bucu ammo.  Our family would be safe. Right?? Trust the Lord but keep the ammo dry!

But would we. We would have to run a new fence to bring the cattle in closer away from public view lest rustling of our cows start. and where to hide the garden and keep the food safe from prying eyes. I have a family to protect and provide for, right?

But then a young man drives up to the place in his old pick up with a bunch of kids. He mentions seeing our live stock in the past  and asks if we could spare just a small portion for his very hungry family.

Should I tell him he should have prepared when he had the chance, quit begging,  and get off my property, now?  (Remember the wedding feast and those who were not wise and had no xtra oil? -bad context?). Or. Should I give them a meal to satisfy their hunger, a few glasses of cool well water in the name of Jesus to quench their thirst, and bid them good journey?

Obviously, they will get hungry again and possibly then bring others to share our present bounty of food and water. What say ye?
Should I share half of what we have today, and half of what's left tomorrow, etc till there is none left. And then cry out to God for help and some more food etc.

Or should I Trust him now, today, like Marathoner, to lead me on a straight path, loving others and sharing the good news, and doing those good works he created us for, and leave tomorrow's worry for the Lord, who will never leave or forsake me or my family, and wait for his leading.

I decided to do my part, keeping my house ready as per scripture and not become a survivalists or doomsday prepper but be concerned more about being ready to go to my eternal home. We have always had a peace about this decision.

"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread"

Thanks Marathoner...

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
