(Worthy News) - The unprecedented global ransomware cyberattack has hit more than 200,000 victims in more than 150 countries, Europol executive director Rob Wainwright said Sunday.

The head of the pan-European Union policing agency said that few had given in to the demands for payment to unblock files so far, but warned that the situation was escalating.

Wainwright said he was worried that the ransomware attack might spread further once people return to work on Monday and log on to their computers.

Wainwright said the attack was indiscriminate, fast-spreading and unique because the ransomware was being used in combination with a worm — meaning that the infection of one computer could automatically spread it through an entire network. [ Source ]

The challenges of evolving into technological dependence. There's a lesson behind all this.

Years ago there was a movie I caught by chance. A blackout occurred in this neighborhood and spanned quite a ways but not the whole U.S.. The people in this one neighborhood panic and think the worst because the power doesn't come on right away. The blackout lasts something like the weekend. Meanwhile, we get to see just how dependent we are on one resource; electricity.

They can't get fuel at the local stations. They can't get cash from the bank ATM. One man's son has asthma and they can't get his inhaler from the pharmacy because the computer doesn't bring up the boys account. Which is ridiculous in that case because the pharmacist knew the family so he could have just given the boy the ability to breathe.

There are no lights. But there are phones, because electricity outage doesn't effect those. But what was weird in the movie plot is that wasn't brought up. It just showed how people panic when the power went out.

Think about that. We're told our grid in the U.S. is very primitive compared to some countries. Imagine a hit on the electric grid in the U.S. . What that would do to America itself. This with the computers is one thing. But that? Yikes.  Someone out there is showing us just how vulnerable we are. God help us.

  2. I think the Christian charitable heart prays for those who suffer mentally. And especially for those who are considering taking their own life to alleviate the pain they feel. I can never second guess someone in such straits. And I don't think it fair to ostracize people from speaking openly about what they may know personally as pertains to the condition. And most certainly not appropriate is threatening them with report and banning by every expendable effort, just to get them to shut up.

Brain chemistry is a fact of life and science that has been long known for generations. It is God's blessing that psychiatry is finding ways to identify what occurs in those chemical processes that make people feel as they do when they're mentally unwell. Being open to that understanding helps people. Threatening to shut it down when spoken of does not.

Let's all remember we are one in Christ. And show compassion for one another. As we treat one another so too do we treat Christ. God be with those who struggle.

That isn't a scripture supporting your prior statement that we're all discussing here. The world was created by God so that we could judge the angels.

You're welcome to the support. :) Too often we gloss over someone's express question in order to reiterate our own point.

None of these posts says women cannot work in ministry.  Some say they cannot hold specific offices, but never a blanket statement like you claim.

Of course that isn't true as one can discern when they read through the links. Claiming blanket statement doesn't offset the evidence that there are posts that say exactly that. Women can't be pastors. Which we all know of course is a service God calls people to.

Agreed. We know from 1 Cor 6 that the saints will in fact judge the fallen angels - but no Bible text says that the world was created for that purpose - that I know of.

Well there is certainly room for logic, common sense, reason ... in formulating a doctrine/opinion/preference - but even then it should be 'tested' by the Bible to see if it is contradicting the Bible. If your local church says that everyone who sits on the platform and leads out each week - must wear red shoes - that "custom" or rule or practice does not violate some Bible doctrine and so would be "allowed" - but it also does not allow it to elevate to the level of "scripture" or "divine command" or ...

I know of no scripture to that effect either. It really doesn't even make sense that the sole reason God created the world was so that humans, being the journey we have to travel from birth unto death, sin, sinners, redemption, rebirth, then allows us to judge angels that are not in sin?

I think the proposal became insolvent when the justification for it was, "common sense".

I placed in bold and underlined the blanket statement.  From that point, I read that you were talking about all services and not any specific service, which is why I said ti was a blanket statement.

As for certain official positions, scripture speaks for itself.

    Your blanket statement not withstanding?

Scripture does speak for itself. And nowhere does God say women can't be pastors. :)

Any Prejudice against women is misogyny.  I will not stand by idly and watch women be treated like second class citizens. They are not!  Certainly not IN CHRIST!

Ask the WW2 survivors how important women were to the war cause?  If they can run the factories and make airplanes and ships, they can also teach the word of God to me. I will listen to any Spirit filled woman any day of the week.

Heck, why do you think God made woman anyhow?  Because he realized he made a mistake making man and He wanted to perfect his error.  Hehe

    LOL

Great words brother. :) I don't think we have to defend God's plan for women. I think those that argue God shows prejudice toward women should be ashamed. We are all one in Christ. Any other time that would settle it. God said it, I believe it, and that's it. That's typically how it goes with us bible believers. Except for this case of women pastors.

It's nonsense. People don't agree with a woman being a pastor that's their fault letting their prejudice second guess God. God calls whom he will to serve. Do we really think God looks at the world and says, aw shucks, she can't spread the word of my son because I made her female! Next?

That's man's thinking. Not God's. We can't know the mind of God. God says that in his word. And yet there are those of us who second guess God on the issue of women pastors.

Blanket statement? I refuted Running Gators claim on first page and his statement about women pastors. And from there as it progressed to that of women being called in service to God. Which includes women pastors. Therefore, you're wrong about the content of those posts in the link I afforded using the keyword search here to find threads wherein women pastors have been the topic, "women pastors".

And those results show there is opposition to women being called in service as pastors by God.

Good point. Interesting that a topic of misogyny has a man introducing the topic of women being unfit to pastor due to their gender. That's not misogyny necessarily though misogyny can be a component on an individual basis. It is however, a gender prejudice. Especially when neither Jesus nor God said that women would never be called by God to serve as pastors.

The text that gender prejudice typically uses to defend itself is where Paul made remarks about women remaining quiet in church. That has nothing to do with pastoral duties. Further, it would be absurd to invoke Paul as articulating gender prejudice under guidance from God's holy spirit, when it is also believed under guidance from God's holy spirit Paul said there is no Greek, nor Jew, nor any other thing that separates us because we are all one in Christ Jesus. That declaration would be erroneous if it was to be inferred to sustain gender prejudice by saying instead, "there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. But you are segregated by gender if women think to preach because they can't. Because they're women!"

Which is what gender prejudice attempts to promote of itself when making that stipulation against the oneness of all faithful in Christ.

It just doesn't comport with the truth of Christ.

I think this derives from a misunderstanding of discernment. We end up equating discernment with criticism. At times discerning circles do move into a critical mode but the heart of discernment is being able to stand firm. The armor in Ephesians 6. Stand firm.

The radical in this life is the Christian. Everything in this world is built on an anti christ worldly perspective. If it were not for the living God reaching out to humanity, evil would rule and we would smell blood every day until our own is shed. Think about it.

All religion has it's roots in Babel. All of it. God called Abraham and Abraham believed. It's the distinction that makes all the difference. This isn't some past time of thought and philosophy on having a good life until we die. It's pure and true from a holy and loving creator who will return and put all things right. "The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God." That's what's at the heart of discernment. A mixture is no good.

"May your love abound more and more in real knowledge and all discernment." Phil. 1:9.

Jude speaks of hating the garment spotted with the flesh right in the context of love, it's about love, and yes we all get carried away at times but I really believe most of us desire to speak these things in love. Difficult task on a message board but we keep trying.

Yes, there is a difference between discernment and criticism. My observation encircled the latter.

And prideful thinking their ego's know more than does God. As if God would deliver the message that we're all one in Christ and then say, but because we're women he'd never see us fit to preach his word. The common sense defense wouldn't hold in any other discussion about scriptural declarations or inferences would it?

  17. I'll bump your talk here. There's a thread about persecution of Christians in the middle east. Being Orthodox Christians are among those being targeted by the evil there I thought this would maybe personalize the issue a little more. Being evangelicals are converting to a faith that is targeted in the ME. If it will happen there I don't think any Christian is safe when evil is entering into western countries through the refugee programs. And by other means.

We've suffered terrorist attacks by ISIS in America already. God forbid Christians are targeted here as they are in the Middle East.

  18. It is a real tragedy that more churches aren't in the news speaking out against this evil. Thank God we have a president in office now who does care and will hopefully help to stop this wickedness from continuing. God's peace is with all Christians who have been brutally murdered by the wicked in the middle east.
