I believe the rapture will happen when the 7th trumpet sounds on the day of the Lord (one 24 hour day).  This will be the Second Coming of Christ.

The difference is that the 'Rapture" is the Saints (living Christians at Christ's future coming) being caught up to be with Him. Saints, throughout the New Testament, are referred to as the elect or chosen.

Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thess 4:17

The 2nd coming is Christ returning  after a time of great trouble:

9“But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30“And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. 31“And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.   Matt 24

Opinions vary on whether or not these events (the Rapture and the 2nd coming) happen in an uninterrupted sequence or are separated by some number of years. However, the Bible never says they are separated by any significant time.

The important differences between the rapture and second coming are as follows:

1) At the rapture, believers meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). At the second coming, believers return with the Lord to the earth (Revelation 19:14).

2) The second coming occurs after the great and terrible tribulation (Revelation chapters 6–19). The rapture occurs before the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5:9;Revelation 3:10).

3) The rapture is the removal of believers from the earth as an act of deliverance (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17,5:9). The second coming includes the removal of unbelievers as an act of judgment (Matthew 24:40-41).

4) The rapture will be secret and instant (1 Corinthians 15:50-54). The second coming will be visible to all (Revelation 1:7;Matthew 24:29-30).

5) The second coming of Christ will not occur until after certain other end-times events take place (2 Thessalonians 2:4;Matthew 24:15-30; Revelation chapters 6–18). The rapture is imminent; it could take place at any moment (Titus 2:13;1 Thessalonians 4:13-18;1 Corinthians 15:50-54).

Why is it important to keep the rapture and the second coming distinct?

1) If the rapture and the second coming are the same event, believers will have to go through the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5:9;Revelation 3:10).

2) If the rapture and the second coming are the same event, the return of Christ is not imminent—there are many things which must occur before He can return (Matthew 24:4-30).

3) In describing the tribulation period, Revelation chapters 6–19 nowhere mentions the church. During the tribulation—also called “the time of trouble for Jacob” (Jeremiah 30:7)—God will again turn His primary attention to Israel (Romans 11:17-31).

The rapture and second coming are similar but separate events. Both involve Jesus returning. Both are end-times events. However, it is crucially important to recognize the differences. In summary, the rapture is the return of Christ in the clouds to remove all believers from the earth before the time of God’s wrath. The second coming is the return of Christ to the earth to bring the tribulation to an end and to defeat the Antichrist and his evil world empire.

Hi bopeep1909,

While I believe with you as regards the pre-trib. catching away to be with the Lord I do NOT agree that the Body of Christ will come back down to earth. That is NOT our purpose. Now the `Dominionists` (kingdom now people) have picked up on the fact that pre-tribs. mid & post tribs have all been taught that the Body of Christ comes back down to earth, thus, so they say, well why does it matter.

Of course, as you so clearly presented people will have to go through the trib. terrifying times, however the error of the teaching that the Body of Christ comes back down to earth, tends to make people think, well we all end up the same (on earth) so `what ever`..... The truth however is that we need to know what God`s eternal purpose is for the Body of Christ, so that we can by faith believe Him, & look for that `high calling,` as the apostle Paul says.

Blessings, sis, Marilyn.

Hello Bopeep

The important differences between the rapture and second coming are as follows:

1) At the rapture, believers meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:17). At the second coming, believers return with the Lord to the earth (Revelation 19:14).

1 Thessalonians 4:16   For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Thessalonians 4:17   Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Revelation 19:14   And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Revelation 19:15   And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

1 Thessalonians 4 is giving a sneak preview of all the saints meeting the Lord in the air.  We get a glimpse of this angle.  We know who they are that are in this resurrection.

The dead in Christ are raised FIRST, then those who are alive picked up.  - just them in this one, and in this order.

Rev 19  is showing us the angle of the saints already there.  All the saints together.  The 1st Resurrection has already come.  It doesn't even mention they are touching the earth yet?  They are coming out of heaven which means they have received their crowns and they stay in the air all assembled with Christ.

Something is going on below now....

We know that at the 6th angel the nations of the earth gather at Armageddon to battle against the Lord.

They are only assembled, ready to war.  Everyone has his orders and move to their position with their weapons.

At the 7th trump the Lord is going to smite those armies.    All those soldiers will be killed.  This is the winepress where the blood reaches the horses bridles.  200 million men gathered there, that is a lot of death and a lot of blood.  This is the third reaping.

There are 3 reapings.  See below.  I copied my reply from another post

.

The first reaping is of the 144,000.  They are taken up first just before the earth is reaped.

The 2nd reaping of the earth is 1 Thess 4 - this one.

All the saints are all picked up by the 7th trump to meet the Lord in the air, the 1st resurrection completed and during this same trump, the armies are gathered below. The saints will witness the 3rd reaping from the air.

The armies below are on the earth, but above, from the air, the Lamb slays those armies with that sword coming out of his mouth. With his Word.  At his command, with his whole host of heaven with him.  This would include the angels.  The saints are there in Christ's glory, and in his presence, ....they are Christ's witnesses, and having the honour of being above with the righteous and not below with the wicked about to receive judgement..

1st Reaping (of the first fruits)

Revelation 14:1   And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.

This is not a resurrection but a quickening.

This comes before the 1st resurrection.  The Firstfruits are FIRST.  Common sense.

Not to be confused with those taken up after the dead in Christ rise first....  (1 Thess 4:16-17) They are separate.

2nd Reaping (of the earth)

Revelation 14:15   And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

1st Resurrection.  Holy Saints picked up.

The rest will stay.

3rd Reaping (Armageddon)

Revelation 14:18   And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

Revelation 14:19   And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

Revelation 14:20   And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

All those armies who are gathered against the Lord, they will be put through the wine press (destroyed)

The important differences between the rapture and second coming are as follows:

2) The second coming occurs after the great and terrible tribulation (Revelation chapters 6–19). The rapture occurs before the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5:9;Revelation 3:10).

Thats right, the second coming is at the end of the tribulation.

You say the rapture occurs before the tribulation and you give this scripture which does not plainly state what you are suggesting;

1 Thessalonians 5:9   For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Of course God has not appointed us to wrath.  But who is he talking to?

John 6:27   Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

This meat has to come from Christ, it is Christ's flesh.  His flesh is meat indeed.  Cannot eat anothers flesh/meat (teachings)

The christian world have been eating all sorts of flesh and getting their information from other sources also.

We need to stay inside the scriptures, because this is where Christ's flesh is.  His Word and his teachings.

The holy spirit will reveal his Word to us, and help us understand what he is saying.

We need to look deeper into what the scriptures say.  This is our source.

We were warned that the enemy came and planted the tares in God's field. These tares have been growing the whole time, infiltrating the truth.

So there are a lot of different doctrines mingled in with the truth.

If we have not eaten Christ's flesh, which is listened to his instructions, then we can be deceived,

and will practice and preach error.  The fruit we produce will be a little rotten.

Simply because we are not reading enough for ourselves and really delving into scripture.

But Christ still loves us, and gives us another chance, in this case we must therefore be purified with fire, it's not a wrath, but a chastisement.

Christ did not destine wrath for the faithful.  There is an exception.

The wrath comes at the end, 3 1/2 years before the coming.

There are 144,000 sealed who follow the Lamb.

Put two and two together.

and you get your little flock you want to belong to.

If we stick to Christ's guidelines, then we will be sealed.

And I mean really stick to it 100% with a pure love for the truth.

Many christians hate to be corrected when the truth is presented, and can sometimes become quite bitter.

This ought not to be so.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
