  1. The beauty of analogies and parables is in how flexible they are to the audience. Everyone can hear the same parable but gather something different out of its meaning, and apply it to their life on personal levels, for the glory of God. i understand it is frustrating when the Word is not cut clean for us, but i feel God uses analogies to reach us on our individual paths of differing maturity. They may not be appreciated by some, but i feel the very fact that God uses parables is a witness to His profound and perfect genius. And might i add, also a testament to how God aches to have a personal and unique relationship with you and me.

  2. Ephesians Chapter 3 14For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, 16That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Isaiah 58: The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. 12 Those from among you Shall build the old waste places; You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; And you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, The Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. Psalm 1:3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

  7. I cannot add much to the Gospel truth Sower gave you on page four. I would encourage you to seek out a Bible-believing, Gospel-preaching church in your area and start attending. I would warn you not to participate in cult-false religious churches. You can select a Bible-believing, Gospel-preaching church using the Internet by reading their statement of faith and church covenant on their website or social media. Perhaps you could ask the Pastor if they offer any spiritual counseling or a referral to someone who can help you face-to-face, one-on-one, and in private.

John 1:5-9 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

  10. Sure, there is a lot of judgement going on in the book of Revelation, but the purpose is love. Here's an analogy: The wife of a master surgeon develops numerous malignant tumors. The surgeon is the very best with removing these types of tumors, so he lovingly sets about to remove them from his beloved. The process is quite involved, but the husband masterfully removes every last one, so his wife can live. She makes a full recovery and they live happily together forever. Of course, the husband/surgeon in this case is God and we are the wife. In Revelation there are many, painful judgements, but it is for the removal of the "tumor" of sin and death from mankind and the universe. There are two kingdoms - the kingdom of "The Son of His love" and the kingdom of darkness. Taken from the standpoint of the evil kingdom, these judgements are severe and painful, but there is a loving purpose in it all! In the last two chapters of Revelation we see the culmination of all God's loving work toward us. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4

  11. I read this in a devotional today . . . a personal testimony of the writer. He is saying he found the Word to be real nourishment to his inner man, if he just ate three good meals from it each day! What he means by this is to take the Word prayerfully and in a way that it is not just a mental exercise of reading and studying, and thereby it will supply life to his being that energizes his inner-man and causes him to automatically walk in spirit. What are your thoughts on this - do you do this or see value in it - or what is your approach to actually being nourished in spirit? A Personal Testimony "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart." Jeremiah 15:16 (KJV) Many years ago I began to learn the secret revealed in this verse. After being a Christian for about nine years, I came to a point where I felt dry, discouraged, and defeated. I tried to overcome my failing self in many areas, but found I lacked the necessary strength. This went on for several weeks, and then somehow it occurred to me that I should begin reading my Bible three times a day in a regular way. So I began reading the Old Testament in the morning, Psalms and Proverbs at noon, and the New Testament in the evening. It was amazing to see what happened to me within one week. I discovered that the Word of God was food! At that time the Lord impressed me with Jeremiah 15:16. Formerly, my time with the Lord in the Word was mainly an exercise of my eyes and my mind. But when I discovered that the nature of God's Word was food, I began to read the Word with a praying spirit. The Bible became a new book in my hands. It became a book of enjoyment, a book from which I could feed upon the living God. I found myself reading and praying simultaneously and then taking up a verse or a phrase and beginning to fellowship with the Lord with the very words of Scripture. I found I did not have to strive to find what to pray. The Word of God itself became the content of my prayer. While doing this I found a mysterious yet real supply spontaneously infusing my inner man. No longer was I merely looking at black and white letters on a page or trying to mentally understand things, which had often left me spiritually deadened. For the first time in my Christian life, I began to enjoy God Himself in the pages of the Bible. Eating three square meals a day by feeding upon the Word taught me experientially that my inner man requires food just as my physical body does. The reason for my defeated Christian life, I discovered, was simply lack of nourishment. In studying the Bible for seven years, it had become to me a book of theology, sermons, and outlines, rather than a book of enjoyment and supply. I realized that the mere knowledge of the Bible could not change me. It was only when the Bible was translated into food by my praying with and over the verses that it turned into enjoyment rather than mere thought. I realized then, as I do today, that one of the secrets of spending time with the Lord is to feed upon the Word.

  12. 1 John 2:3 (NASB20) By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Scripture puts forth this by this as a touch stone that one can measure one’s knowing of Him; does one keep His commandments…? Seeing how all His commandments are instructions in, to, and towards righteousness, therefore to the degree one does righteousness to that degree can one know one knows Him…. For knowing Him is the all of everything in the time one has in this world, if one does not know Him all is lost that was meant to be gained…. For Jesus did die and one with Him, to the degree one enters into this truth, to that degree will one discover oneself not doing a righteousness that comes by and through oneself, but doing a righteousness that comes by and through faith in Christ Jesus…. For one keeping His commandments is a Divine act which only Christ’s life in one can accomplish… Faith in this life actually living in and through one, is the faith that will see the reality of this truth…. Oh to the knowing of Him, may His people do an increasing of righteousness so all might know an increasing of Him…. For blessings are to be discovered, to the degree one knows Him….. Unto Him be our all, Not me

Instead I find I am challenged to have my own devotion with God, doing my own reading, my own praying, my own thinking over the word and my relationship with God, my own conversation, my own questioning of God- Starting with; "Is it good between you LORD and me?"

  14. In reference to analogies created by a man trying to enhance the Word of God, i wouldn't feel comfortable writing them off as folly, because i would feel like i am placing a limit on God and His ability to reach the hearts of those listening. God can still use the man's analogies and the man's attempt to minister to the listeners for His glory, right? You dont know who out there needed to hear that specific approach to the Word of God. It really is just a style of administering the Word. It might not be your style, but not everyone is created like you. There are many different styles of preaching and God uses them all. We all know how some people are visual learners, and some are learners by being hands-on, and others need to hear it to learn. Well what about our hearts, and what does it take to open the doors or our hearts to recieve the Word of God? Not all hearts are created equal, and some might need a good laugh before feeling relaxed enough to open their heart. Others might need a good story to warm them up for receiving the meat of the Word. Others might need a modern analogy to relate to before being able to accept an analogy written thousands of years ago. God is working behind the scene in all of these styles of approach, right? The Holy Spirit is working through all of these styles and approaches, to mature His believers and save the lost.

  17. I think "my favorite" is more poetry than it is pure analogy from the LORD. The key element being it is the word of God; it's understanding comes via the Holy Spirit that indwells within the believer of the Faith of Yeshua: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.”

For now children of prophecies in part see through a glass of prophecies darkly; for now children of tongues in part, see through a glass of tongues darkly; for now children of knowledge in part, see through a glass of knowledge darkly, for these children know in part NOT in entirety, for these children perceive NOT the teaching of charity. But then the man of charity face to face with charity then shall man of charity know even as also He is known. That when that which is CHARITY (LOVE) is come, We know charity, and we prophesy OF FAITH in charity shall NEVER FAIL. we know charity in tongues, we speak in tongues OF HOPE in charity shall continue. we know knowledge in CHARITY, we speak knowledge in CHARITY shall appear or come. Now let us abide in the prophecies of FAITH of charity, in the tongues of HOPE of charity, in the knowledge of CHARITY, these three; For the greatest of these is CHARITY, is God. To God the Father be all glory and thanksgiving through Christ. Amen

  27. Hi VA, Interesting that your group was discussing this too. Maybe God is highlighting some truth here. Now, thank you for asking. When looking at questions I always start from God`s perspective, His Purpose. And that He says is to make Christ preeminent in all things. (Col. 1: 18b) Thus, God has Christ`s Rulership as His predominant focus. Yes, an `operation` is needed but that is just the `means to the end.` 1.Man in the beginning developed sinfully, and as you rightly said till it has `run its course.` Gen. 6: 5 `that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.` 2.After the flood God gave man governing responsibility and the nations developed. (Gen. 9: 5 & 6) God knew that no government or ruler of man would rule righteously continually. Thus, God set about to make His own nation who would govern the nations righteously. Starting small, (as you said previously) with a man, then a family, tribe and finally a nation, called Israel. And God knew that even though He would do wonders in the eyes of His nation that they would rebel against Him. This again reveals that man has no capability to rule righteously. Finally, Israel`s national rebellion came to a head when they had their righteous ruler crucified. God then sent them into exile while He set about making another group for rulership. 3.After the tribulation. However, God did not cast away His nation of Israel, for He knew that man has no capacity to rule righteously. Thus, their righteous ruler (Christ) will set about Atonement for them. (Deut. 32: 43) After the tribulation the Spirit of Grace will come upon those in Israel and they will receive their righteous Ruler. (Zech. 12: 7 – 10) The nations will have come to a head receiving Satan`s evil rulership and will thus be judged. Those of the nations who looked after the Jews will go into the time of God`s righteous rulership over the nations. Any questions or comments? Also, I still have another question.

  28. I have to say this is such a limiting perspective, limiting to how God may chose to speak through any person, thing, or event. And why do you only take issue with analogies? If they come from base instincts and desires ("an ego trip by the speaker/ writer") what about anything else spoken by a mere mortal? What about anything anyone here—including yourself(!)—has written which is not just quotation of the Word? By your standard it seems we should only be doing just that, quoting the Word, because even the things you seem to allow for ("even extra Biblical writing of history that also examines the word, and archaeological reveal") can be just as much in error or full of folly. This perspective brings to mind the analogy of that person standing on the rooftop in the midst of a flood ("I sent you a guy in a rowboat and then a helicopter to save you..."), only he's not just praying, "God, please save me," but also putting his hands over his ears and shutting his eyes, because he refuses to accept that God can say and do whatever He likes, whenever He likes, however He likes, through whomever He likes.

  32. Jesus Christ made the distinction between being married and just shacking up when he showed the woman at the well her sins. He told her that she had had five husbands and the man she was with now - she was not married to. Jesus understood the difference. Paul said that we are to obey our governments [unless they compel us to sin]. The US government requires a marriage license, similar to a hunting or fishing license. It is not sinful to get a license, so I believe in getting one. All that is required is someone with the power invested in them to declare a couple married to sign the license. A clergyman, a justice of the peace, a ship captain, etc. The fancy clothes, the expensive suppers and parties afterward, the invitations, and all that - is totally unnecessary to be married. To be legally married - all that is required is a signed piece of paper. Just do something simple - super simple and legal. Later, you can have whatever kind of expensive and large extravaganze that you want.

  33. Yes - over and over He gives men chances to repent and not take the side of the "malignant tumor." But if they insist, the judgement most come about in order to save "the patient." This shows that it's all from a primary motive of love for the ones He created in His image and likeness, and to whom He gave dominion over all the earth and everything on it. He loves us far too much to see us remain in a fallen state of misery, sin and death - out of fellowship with Him - and being lorded over by our enemy!

  34. John 3:21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God. How do we come to the light, and walk in the light? 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. This is the place where we work righteousness, bear fruit, and know that we keep His commandments. 1 Peter 1:22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart. While I freely admit that I have struggled to love many in fellowship, the ones whom I immediately fell in love with were those who shared in the love of truth, found in the doctrines of Christ. 1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 4:12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. How can someone love God, and not love His Word, His Son, and His children who walk in truth?

  37. Pretty much where I stand too, and I'll note that the Bible itself contains many analogies. The parables are a type of analogy, for example. The parable of the different soils is a particularly noteworthy example. It was easy to understand back then because it was so firmly tied to survival and a very common occupation. Even now the language used makes it easy to understand. Not all of them have aged as well for various reasons, though, like the camel passing through the eye of a needle. If someone's analogy is the tool God uses to reach a particular person I'm certainly not going to take issue with it.
    1 point
  38. The scriptures make extensive use of metaphor, which facilitates translation. Proverbs 19:12 The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass. Regardless of the language, a lion is a lion, and dew is dew. Of course there are many parables, which may require the Holy Spirit for right comprehension, but also a knowledge of God's dealings with Israel, which are a parable in themselves. Ezekiel 17: 1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, pose a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel, 3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “A great eagle with large wings and long pinions, Full of feathers of various colors, Came to Lebanon And took from the cedar the highest branch..... 1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Someone preaching or teaching by the Spirit may use just about any story from the testimonies concerning Israel as an analogy for God's perspective of man. This is an expected and acceptable manner of teaching. Isaiah 8:16 Bind up the testimony, Seal the law among my disciples. 17 And I will wait on the Lord, Who hides His face from the house of Jacob; And I will hope in Him. 18 Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel From the Lord of hosts, Who dwells in Mount Zion. 19 And when they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? 20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

  39. I don't think I could agree with using no analogies. I think it would depend on who you are talking to. The Bible is full of concepts, and if you don't understand the customs and language of the time the Bible was penned and translated, sometimes you would have to have a long history lesson just to understand the concept of what is being said or done to get the person to understand.

  41. Unless you are getting a strong, consistent leading of the Spirit that a certain something you are praying for should no longer be prayed for (like if God is telling you clearly that the answer is no and you need to move on), I would continue praying for it. This assuming that the thing in question you are praying for was something right to be praying for in the first place (I.E. not winning the lottery or something bad happening to someone else etc.)

  42. Here's my take on that. I, for one, believe in persistent prayer because of Luke 18 and the story of the persistent widow. I have some people I pray for persistently. A gay couple, some former Muslim students, my brother, and more. Luke 18 teaches us to bring these requests to God persistently. Don't give up. Even after years and years. Don't stop praying. I don't believe that Mark 11 teaches the opposite. Mark 11:24 says to pray in faith and believe and it will be yours. It doesn't say the length of time required. Luke 18 doesn't say there will be an immediate answer and Mark 11 doesn't say that either. Combine the two: [1] Pray persistently - over and over. Do not let go. [2] Pray in faith and believe. The answer may not come for years. But it will come.

  44. You give us a good example of the admonition of James 19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Ironically, an online forum should give us more opportunities to wait on replying, praying and considering another's pov. I am new to this, and what I have discerned is that people who fire back harsh replies have been doing this awhile and respond as if they have "heard everything" and address some pet peeve, while missing my point entirely. I find myself going in circles with someone who cannot consider the possibility that they jumped to conclusions and rushed to judgment. In fact, I am certain that many of these comments are directed towards the title of the thread without actually reading the content and the scriptures provided. While this can be very frustrating, it can be a lesson in longsuffering. However, when it is the same person consistently taking on an adversarial tone, that is when the ignore feature becomes necessary. While we cannot simply ignore someone in direct fellowship, there are instructions for people who are consistently unruly, disruptive, argumentative, etc...for discipline. For example, Titus 3:9-11 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and striving about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned. This unenviable task falls to the forum moderators.

  45. We've been called into this fellowship, and "truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son." (1 John 1:3) This is the oneness Christ prayed about in John 17. And we can have this fellowship because we share the one Spirit. To me, genuine fellowship in Spirit has a flow. ("Out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living waters") We know when we are in the flow of the Spirit in fellowship with one another . . . there is the sense of life and His presence.

The millennial reign is still not to be considered ‘His Kingdom’ for it will end… and as you have quoted above His kingdom will not end… Millennial reign is set forth to fulfill God’s promised to Israel as Jesus is able to do so with a rod of iron and the Church serving His needs in this on this earth… many twist this as not literal but in the presentation of the text there is no permission to do so… it will be a very unusual time in all of the History of this first creation… The Spiritual kingdom of God has always been and will always be as it is bound up in the Personage of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit without end…
