Christians supporting Abortion??

I suspect that this should be in the controversial thread but I don't meet the requirements to post there.

Full disclosure: I am pro-life. I believe life begins at conception and ends with natural death.

In a previous thread I had said that I heard that some Christian denominations have become soft on the abortion issues. Something I had not confirmed or thought had a lot of truth. But after posting that comment I thought what if that statement were true.

This is from Wikipedia so take it for what's it's worth:

Protestant supporters of abortion rights include the United Church of Christ, the United Methodist Church, the Episcopalian Church, and the United Presbyterian Church, the Episcopal Church, the Presbyterian Church (USA), The United Church of Christ, The United Methodist Church, and the Lutheran Women's Caucus.[11][38] The American Baptist Churches USA, Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the Presbyterian Church (USA) and The United Church of Christ consider abortion permissible under certain restricted circumstances

So my question is: Is what I read on Wikipedia true?

That paragraph from Wikipedia really shocked me!!

Some churches are now accepting abortion in the same way that they are accepting gay marriages but I believe that they are fallen (or falling) churches. It's probably going to get worse too.

I too am pro-life, but I did have to think about it before I came to that decision. I had to decide whether or not life begins at conception and I believe that it does.

It's not always the point though. Whether it begins at conception or not is usually irrelevant. Most people who are pro-abortion lead adulterous lifestyles. They just see abortion as another form of contraception and they use the pro-abortion argument as an excuse to avoid any personal responsibility for their actions.

I've never met or heard of a pro-choice person who is in a sanctified loving marriage. Most of them lead promiscuous lifestyles.

The Jews had always considered life as starting at conception, and started counting a person's age from that time. Their birth date was their conception date, so to speak. So abortion had always been considered killing in their culture. It was not until the church spread to heathen cultures that this became an issue. One very early Christian writing the Didache, was written prior to the fall of Jeruselem and included the 10 commandments written as Thou shalt not kill nor commit an abortion. This manuscript was once included with the scriptures but was not canon. It was like a catechism. This fact is what convinced me that the church at the time of the apostles conisidered abortion an abomination to the Lord.

This slaughter of the innocents was one of the reasons that baal worship was considered so insideous, and it became part of greek and roman idolitry as well. Wherever there are temple prostitutes there are unwanted babies.

I remember when young women died horrible deaths from infection in illegal abortion clinics. Now babies are torn limb from limb and burned alive with acid in the course of removing them from the womb. Yes, they do feel the pain. I don't know which is more barbaric.

Some churches accept abortion only if necessary to save the life of the mother. I might go along with that if the danger were an immediate and a certain life threatening emergency, and an effort were made to save the baby through cesarean birth or inducing labor if possible.

Being pro-choice is not the same as being pro-abortion. One can support a person's right to choice yet dislike that they choice to have an abortion.

(Oh I'm going to get it now, here I am disagreeing with everyone  )

consider abortion permissible under certain restricted circumstances

does not seem they are giving carte blance to abortion

perhaps they refer to a woman becoming pregnant after a rape or if  her life is in danger...it does say certain restrictede circumstances

I don't know what the restrictions are, doesn't mean I agree with them (therefore)

As far as wiki goes, well, I suggest you look up the churches individually to read their conduct...or usually wiki has links to the articles to which they refer

ps...pro choice means you are ok with someones decision to abort...it means free to choose either or or

I don't know if abortion is a sin or not.  For one the conscience doesn't boot up for quite awhile.

A fetus is still alive regardless of conscience.

I used to be pro-choice until I realized deeply that life begins at conception and to end that is murder.  Yes, I do see that sometimes there are circumstances where abortion can be the atternative, like the mother's life is in jeapordy.

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
