Many animals communicate with body language, which is also considered to be more reliable among humans. And they do understand verbal communication even though they don't reply with words. They reply with body language.

The man who raised a flock of wild turkeys from the time that they hatched, however, claimed that he understood at least 35 verbal communications of the turkeys. They had different sounds for Red Tail Hawks, as well as for separate species of snakes, and could communicate their plans for the day to him. He slept with them, ate insects with them and learned to think like a turkey. lol

I have heard that the use of tools separate us from the animal kingdom, but both great apes and crows use tools as well. In fact, several species of birds have learned to use tools and sometimes shape them to suit their purposes as well. So perhaps the main thing that separates us from animals is that some of us are indwelt by God's Holy Spirit.

Speech and communication are not the same thing, necessarily.  I think one needs to make a differentiation.   Speech is unique to humans, communication is not.

I'm pretty sure that the reason we're so articulate, so evincive, is because we're meant to be Church/Bride - we're meant to foster godly awareness.

Think in terms of everything that is physical or formulated as being spectral images (spectral words or forms) of God's infinite awareness (the awareness of his Spirit) that he has purposed, spoken, or translated. We fall into the spectrum of life as Church/Bride. We are a word or image and our meaning, or purpose, or spirit, is to spread the word, and to do that, to spread the word, we need to be articulate.

That's my best guess, anyways. Consider: James 1:27 and Malachi 2:15

People have often asked at some point in their lives why animals can't speak. A short generic answer is that they lack vocal cords. Out of all creation on earth, only mankind has the gift of speech. What a privilege it is to be able to express our adoration and thanks. What are your thoughts about this?

 Animals speak to other animals. Though I am not sure if a cat can speak dog?  2 barks for yes 1 for no? Okay now I am just being silly.

animals do communicate.   I had  cat and dog that communicated.  Don't know how they did it, but they did.

They are SO cute!  But birds never like me; probably because I've been a cat owner since childhood.

That's true.  My cat and my recently departed Chihuahua could communicate and it seemed like they just looked at each other.
