1 Timothy 5:8 (KJV) But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Taking something by force of law from someone, and giving it to the politicians choice of beneficiaries for votes; diminishes my ability to provide for myself and my family; much less give additional charity.

After the Revolutionary War, Congress voted down giving aid and pensions to disabled war veterans, their widows and orphans. They knew it was immoral to forcefully take from the productive and give it to the politicians choice of beneficiaries and where that would lead to. That the sole role of government was to protect the country from both foreign and domestic threats; and set conditions favorable for a free, independent and productive nation.

Supposedly our law is based only on three legal documents and nothing else; they are the Constitution of the United States of America, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. There's nothing in them to even suggest we owe a living to someone else. It's called charity for a reason, government has forcefully taken it over, and the church and community allowed it... Now look at where we are at and our debt that can never be repaid; we don't even own our own country anymore, the banks and foreign governments do. Coming up; free college educations for the poor masses. Maybe there is a free lunch?

My topic was about what the Bible says we are to do. Not what the Constitution says.

So......I hear this said nearly every time there is a post about food for the poor or food stamps or something along that line. Someone brings up "the Bible says If you don't work, you shouldn't eat."  Yet Jesus never says this when dealing with the poor. All Jesus says about dealing with the poor and needy is that we should give. No where do I see where Jesus said make the poor or hungry person do a job for you before you feed them.  Matthew 25:35 says   For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. The Old Testament talks about the poor and hungry as well. Isaiah 58:7 says,  Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.  But the only place I see where it says "If you do not work, you shouldn't eat" is from Paul.  From what I can understand Paul seems to have been saying this to the the Church of  The Thessalonians at the time. The next verse seems to explain why Paul said this to the Church of Thessalonians.  That verse,  2 Thessalonians 3:11  says;   We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.    So my thoughts having study these verse.  Paul was not addressing the poor and hungry. But seems to be addressing busybodies who are running around among the Church of The Thessalonians,  causing disruption and putting their noses where they don't belong instead of working.  There for.  From that I come to the conclusion that   when we are talking about the call we have as Christians to care for the poor and hungry of this country. Or talking about  food  assistance  programs for low income and the needy. Someone stating 2 Thessalonians 3:10   is miss using and taking the verse out of its rightful meaning.  Perhaps in order to justify the cutting of food programs or it maybe  that they just don't know any better.

Anywho, I do not wish to argue on this. This is really just my own thoughts on 2 Thessalonians 3:10.  I welcome your feed though. Good day and God Bless.

Hmm not government mentioned. ??? What was edited? Was the word government deleted from the beginning and ending or not?Another mentions the post beginning with the word government and ending with it, but I don't see the word at all.

As to Matthew25:34 I ask who is the "you" that Jesus is addressing?

As to Isaiah 58:7 again I ask who is being addressed?

Is the message intended to tell us that Christians should feed and cloth the world?

Since we don't, we are stuck with casting votes for people who are more concerned with getting re-elected who may or may not be able to make changes to a huge bureaucratic system.

Hi, Gandalf, I just went through here and reread your text and my reply and I want to apologize to you. I jumped on you wrongly for getting political but when I reread your entire text, I realized that wasn't your intention. All I can say is I guess I just focused on the end and given my strong views on the matter took it out on you when you didn't deserve it. There's no excuse for such shortsightedness on my part. All I'll say is that "While Honesty is Always the best policy, sometimes insanity is a better defense" so I'll go with that. Sorry and God Bless.

Not a problem.  :)     In such cases I usually assume the best which was either you'd misread it or were just having a really bad day at the time.  I also could have phrased a few things more clearly.

It was a bit of both. Ironically, while I rarely discuss politics because these days either way I would lean would alienate about half the country and thus possibly affect any attempt to witness to them because of it, when rereading your post, it got me to thinking about going to the politics section and discussing the one exception to that rule as my views are so radical on it that it's pretty well nondenominational (I mean non partisan, Freudian slip). But I think my better Angels may be leading me to leave it alone for now.

I was told by a Christian psychologist and our churches' associate pastor that it is psychologically predictable for people who cannot repay their benefactors to turn against them.  That is why it is best to give anonymously to the poor.  It is true that some people can receive gifts as from the Lord, Who is our ultimate supplier even when He uses people.  However even Christians are inclined to become beholden to people and to turn against them when they can't repay.  As I have said before, that is why the current hand outs of our socialistic  government doesn't work and why so many try to scam the government.  They save face and feel in control by scamming, or they become ungrateful or feel entitled and demanding.  It is how they preserve their dignity.  It is also why most men in Russia are alcoholics according to Russian evangelistic Christians, and why so many women become prostitutes there.  Socialism robs people of their self respect.

Others have said and I concur that some are desperate and in great need or in temporary need.  These definitely need help.  This is especially true of disaster relief.

I believe that is referring to Christians not the poor of this world. They were having trouble with lazy people in the church. Gossiping and not working.

2Th 3:10  For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat."

2Th 3:11  We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.

2Th 3:12  Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

We are to work so we can meet our own needs and share with others.

1Th 4:11  and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,

1Th 4:12  so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

Creating a welfare state is a sin for all involved. We are commanded to take care of ourselves and our families. We are to help our neighbors. Our immediate neighborhood. Not some foreign country. Our for real neighbors. 60%of Atlanta are on welfare. Look up major cities everywhere. It will shock you. God never requires of me to work for others except my own family and to NOT depend on the labor of others. I know socialism is Satans great device. Guilt the producers into giving to the non producers who are not your family or immediate community. It’s just a misrepresentation of scripture and anyone with discernment knows it

    • You are coming up higher in this season – above the assignments of character assassination and verbal arrows sent to manage you, contain you, and derail your purpose. Where you have had your dreams and sleep robbed, as well as your peace and clarity robbed – leaving you feeling foggy, confused, and heavy – God is, right now, bringing freedom back -- now you will clearly see the smoke and mirrors that were set to distract you and you will disengage.

Right now God is declaring a "no access zone" around you, and your enemies will no longer have any entry point into your life. Oil is being poured over you to restore the years that the locust ate and give you back your passion. This is where you will feel a fresh roar begin to erupt from your inner being, and a call to leave the trenches behind and begin your odyssey in your Christ calling moving you to bear fruit that remains as you minister to and disciple others into their Christ identity.

This is where you leave the trenches and scale the mountain to fight from a different place, from victory, from peace, and from rest. Now watch as God leads you up higher above all the noise, above all the chaos, and shows you where you have been seated all along with Him in heavenly places where you are UNTOUCHABLE. This is where you leave the soul fight, and the mind battle, and learn to fight differently.

You will know how to live like an eagle and lead others to the same place of safety and protection that God led you to, which broke you out of the silent prison you were in. Put your war boots on and get ready to fight back! Refuse to lay down -- get out of bed and rebuke what is coming at you. Remember where you are seated and live from that place.

Acts 1:8 - “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses … to the end of the earth.”

    • Understanding the Enemy!

I thought I write about the flip side of a topic, and how to recognize the attempts of the enemy to destroy lives and how you can walk in His victory!

For the Apostle Paul taught us not to be ignorant of enemy's tactics and strategies.

2 Corinthians 2:112  Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

So often, we can learn lessons by learning and playing "devil's" advocate.  When we read this passage,

Mar 3:26  And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
Mar 3:27  No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strongman; and then he will spoil his house.

Here we learn a lesson that in order to plunder one's house you must first BIND up the strongman.  While we realize in this particular passage this is referring to God binding up the strongman (Satan) and this is how Satan's house is plundered.  But if you carefully analyze the enemy -- you realize that he uses the same tactics on us!  Your house cannot be plundered -- unless you are first bound.   And then Satan can plunder your house!

    • Abraham and Issac: Pictures of the Resurrection, Part 2
      Shalom everyone,

As we continue this series the next obvious sign of the resurrection in the Old Testament is the sign of Isaac and Abraham.

Gen 22:1  After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."
Gen 22:2  He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you."

So God "tests" Abraham and as a perfect picture of the coming sacrifice of God's only begotten Son (Yeshua - Jesus) God instructs Issac to go and sacrifice his son, Issac.  Where does he say to offer him?  On Moriah -- the exact location of the Temple Mount.
