Do You Still Use A Paper Map?

when we go on a travel we may be gone for 5 or 6 weeks and just have a general idea where we want to go....   I do take AAA paper maps in case something happens to the GPS.   We also update the GPS maps before we leave.

The biggest problem we have had over the years is that sometimes when you are looking for something it will take you to their corporate offices or a warehouse where they store things....   but that's usually an interesting drive anyway.

I have learned to always check the total trip roads the GPS has chosen for we really try and avoid interstate roads unless we are in the Winnebago or Western Kansas; on the back roads you have to worry about bridge clearances...

We've got a gazetteer for our home state.  It has pretty much every rural named road in the state and most main city streets.  It's a bit out of date now with some newer roads not on it but it's great for maneuvering around in the country.  For many years, this was my chief resource for plotting routes (and alternative routes when we hit road construction).

We have a Garmin GPS (an older version with perpetual updates).  This is nice for in town.

I have one, but have not touched it in years and would not have the new roads ect.  Google maps is excellent. I take a few minutes to configure the options, like toll roads, highways ect.   This is important as it can save you time and less hassle.   I look for major intersection and kinda try to memorize where they are, so when the map voice commander is speaking out the coming exits ect, I know by bearings as to where I am at.  

To find locations very quickly and accurately, if you have the postal code or zip code, just enter it and it will point you in the right location, it never fails as no two zip code are the same.

Not in years. However, I love Google maps, especially in the 3D satellite mode. It's really cool to take the little man, and put him down at 'ground level'. the 360 degree view is nice!

Depends where I'm goig and who is with me.

I don't have a gps and am use to checking on a map or road atlas and comparing with PC route finders.

I'll print out a route ifd it is complicated otherwise just make notes take road ..., leave junction .. for road ... etc

Thjat said my daughter doesn't like doing an inadvertent senic route and will activate her phones gps system and will give directions.

Try asking a road map the traffic conditions ahead, or if the nearest rest stop is open.

I have 2 atlases in my car. I also print out directions from Google maps...no GPS in the car
