  3. Hi Daniel. I am just about jumping out of my skin! You have said everything I feel. I am sooooo excited about Jesus, love Him soooo much. I love encouraging people too. You keep up that wonderful attitude, provided by the Holy Spirit (our lives are hid with Christ in God) and you will be a great fisher of men. Hallelujah brother!

It's super cool how the Lord works like that! But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 I believe the Lord wanted me to pass this verse along to give your heart rest! You've been on quite a run! It's good, more lives were effected than you know, not to mention the ripple effect of those effected lives! God loves you, dearly! I love the fact that nothing we do for Him is ever in vain!   5. I'VE FINALLY GOT IT! Maybe OCD will make us scared and anxious, or feeling distanced from God. But if the enemy tries to oppress a Christian and make him be scared, you just need to know that, it doesn't matter that you're scared, because you're God's, and nothing bad will happen to you, because our Lord, Jesus Christ loves you and will take care of you. Even if you feel scared and with no hope, remember the fact that you're God's, and he won't allow anyone to put the hand on you. Now trying to fight OCD and recover

Do I not believe as Jesus said?"However,the desires on your heart are most likely not what they ought to be,your ideas(mind) of what you think you "need" are more than likely what is not needed at all......it's not about "Believing",even the demons "believe" ,your "belief" is not what "moves" God to Act as you would want Him to.....your Belief can activate your FAITH to "trust",rely,depend" on our Living Redeemer for all you need and to FILL every desire of your heart when your heart is filled with Him.,His LOVE... I would have to say"Love" is the answer to your question.......Jesus said this... THe difference,I believe....is not that one has "more" FAith than the other,after all the Power of the Holy Spirit is not set on "low" for the one with less Faith & set on "high" for the one with bigger Faith.....that Same Spirit Raised Jesus from the dead,that is His Power,but one knows the Authority he has because he Understands WHO he is in Christ Jesus because he is unhindered by the insecurities of the little shadow of doubt about His Love.....He has a LOving ,Intimate<Personal Relatiionship with God in Christ,he knows by the Heart & Mind of Christ that the mountain must be moved & it will.....the other is not sure.....thats my way of looking at it...... You don't need "a lot" of Faith to move God,you need the right Faith to Understand the Will of God......Faith is HIs Gift to us,we feed it,nourish it by hearing Gods Word.....its an active,ever present & growing Relationship Gods Loving us,us is in Love with Him (I'm probably rambling,just pouring out my thoughts) With love-in Christ,Kwik

II Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. God is perfect, no mistakes, and He is not a God of confusion. It was written precisely as it was said. The word rapture does not appear in any of Paul's writings either, it doesn't exist anywhere in scripture. Every single instance that references what people call the rapture doesn't say rapture, but they all do speak of His coming. Zechariah prophesied this in regards to the Jews. Zechariah 13:7 “Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, Against the Man who is My Companion,” Says the Lord of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd, And the sheep will be scattered; Then I will turn My hand against the little ones. 8 And it shall come to pass in all the land,” Says the Lord, “That two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die, But one–third shall be left in it: 9 I will bring the one–third through the fire, Will refine them as silver is refined, And test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, And I will answer them. I will say, ‘This is My people’; And each one will say, ‘The Lord is my God.’” And the 1/3 that He will bring through the fire as promised are referred to as the remnant, you can find here. Hosea 2:14 “Therefore, behold, I will allure her, Will bring her into the wilderness, And speak comfort to her. 15 I will give her her vineyards from there, And the Valley of Achor as a door of hope; She shall sing there, As in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt. 16 “And it shall be, in that day,” Says the Lord, “That you will call Me ‘My Husband,’ And no longer call Me ‘My Master,’ For the entire picture, I suggest you read Hosea in its entirety, a beautiful tale of love lost, taken aside, and then restored. This is also confirmed in Revelation 12. Revelation 12:13 Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15 So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Pay really close attention to that passage. The woman (The remnant of Israel, the 1/3 who make it) is taken away and protected in the wilderness for a time, times, and half a time (3 1/2years). The dragon (Satan) cannot get her..... this makes him very angry, so he goes after her offspring which are people who have the testimony of Jesus Christ. Who can that be? Only 1/3 of Jews left and they are safe, uh-oh. Who has the testimony of Jesus Christ? Could it be.......Christians. But it does matter when it just can't be the case. Yes, we indeed do have the Word of God. No, the word rapture never appears once in scripture. No, it does not come before the second coming because it is the second coming. The second coming is the only event spoken of by Paul or any of the other NT writers. I never said Revelation is in chronological order, we agree on that. I said Matthew 24 is in chronological order. No, it is not. Hopefully after you read what I have offered to you, you will reconsider your thoughts on this. Again I apologize for sounding harsh, but as a brother in Christ I strongly urge you to not think you know more than Jesus. God bless

  8. Ok, this is a serious issue here. Of course this is what people refer to as the rapture, and you THINK it's out of place? You think Jesus answered wrong? Keep in mind that all of chapter 24 is Jesus speaking. This is the only chronological timeline we have, and you think it is out of place and should come somewhere else? Is that because it disproves the early departure so many are convinced of? You think Jesus was confused? Matthew knew nothing about something that wasn't written of by anyone, we agree on that, considering the word rapture doesn't appear in scripture. But this isn't Matthew's story, this is Jesus speaking. Jesus placed it exactly where it belonged, which is right here in Revelation. Revelation 16:15 “Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. That's Jesus speaking as well, did He get this wrong as well? Sorry if I'm coming off as harsh, but seriously, it is just not right to take such liberties with scripture. Scripture is what a theory should be built on, don't try and make it fit around what is comfortable for you. Perhaps familiarize yourself with the ten plagues of Egypt, did God protect His people then? Daniel in the lions den? The three in the fiery furnace? That's just plain wrong. What we think is irrelevant, what scripture says is everything.

(Romans 4;14) The verses that mess everyone up are out of context: Those who focus on works based salvation cite, "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling," (Philippians 2:12 NIV), but this translation is faulty, why would Paul who was adamant salvation is by grace (God's unmerited favor, a gift, Jesus died for us, his blood is enough Hebrews 10:10) suddenly say works is the way? The better translation of what is meant by this passage in Philippians is fruit of salvation, "Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear." (Philippians 2:12). Paul often uses philosophic language, and until its translated right, people can be mislead, an example is to the Corinthian Church, "For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully," (2 Corinthinas 11:4 NASB), the part about bearing with it beautifully is Paul using philosophical device akin to Sarcasim, "You put up with it beautifully! As in Ugh," and is better translated, " and is in fact one verse before the one I've been illustrating with, "I am afraid, however, that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may be led astray from your simple and pure devotion to Christ." (2 Corinthians 11:3). Grace "God's umerited favor" Faith "To Trust in and Trust God, believe" The point is that Jesus' Work, His Death and Ressurection was enough for our salvation (Hebrews 10, 1 Peter 1, John 19 and 20). Any works we do now is a proof we are saved by Grace, it is not to earn salvation this is what is meant by Paul and James: Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear." (Philippians 2:12). "What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can [n]that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, [o]be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? 17 Even so faith, if it has no works, is [p]dead, being by itself. 18 But someone [q]may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” 19 You believe that [r]God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. 20 But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith was working with his works, and [s]as a result of the works, faith was [t]perfected; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead." (James 2:15-25) James gets into an interesting idea here, he is talking about having fruit (works) that prove your faith has saved you. But interestingly he is using works in a way that says, "I did a work by responding, by confess Jesus as Lord and believe in my heart," (Romans 10:9-10). James is saying we do a work not to save us, but to respond to salvation, just as Abraham did. It doesn't mean we did the saving act, Jesus did on cross, but we must respond to the saving act with confession and belief in our hearts (Romans 10:9-10). This is where semantics goes crazy, James and Paul uses works to mean "respond, to act upon the information of salvation, the Gospel, but the acting upon the Gospel doesn't mean we saved ourselves, no Jesus saved us, but we must confess it and believe it." So in this way James is saying, you are saved by Grace through Faith, and because of Jesus' work, your work is to respond to this Work, by "believing" and confessing, and then its about the result of your salvation as said by Paul, proof you are saved. Complex I know, I have unpacked as best I can at moment.

My friend who read your post is blessing your name , he said I have seen the light, I had been taught that without Holiness we cannot see God, and I had come to believe that I must be Holy to go to Heaven, He said I tried to be Holy so Jesus won't send me to Hell. And continued I have leaved with the fear of sin, and non stop I kept saying "I repent , forgive me from my sins", He told me , I am free, I am going to see a Hockey game, because they had teach me, because I loved the game so much, they told me, that's Idolatry, and Idolaters go to Hell. Idolatry is a sin. He said the told me no sin can enter Heaven, and I must be free , cleanse from sin, live a Holy life, if not, I will not go to Heaven, JESUS CHRIST blood has no power without my continued repentance, and holy living. That's how they explained the word believe in Jonh 3:16, That I must prove that I believe by been a slave to Jesus, a little rebellious thoughts, and he will burned me away from his vine. My tormentor were my friends, who told me, my mother was lost to Hell, because she didn't understand many things, and while believing in Jesus Christ like a possesd woman, she followed the quidance of the Priests, She had obey God who gives the command, believe in Jesus Christ, my Son but she followed the preists in their ways. Her favorite saint was mother Mary, because she was ascented after her death to Heaven without going to pergatory. What a blessed truth, I wish she had understand that she will also be ascented into Heaven after she dies, but whether she knew that or not, does not really matter, JESUS CHRIST knows what to do and he doesn't need our knowledge in that matter. I keep saying this to my sister, finally she said, I understand but just in case. God bless you, How bewtiful are the feet of those who bring good knews. Bless and the peace makers. You brought peace in the heart of my friend, you brought back the joy of the Lord in his life.   16. Hi Spock and Happinessity I know of a young man, a brother that seems to be very girly. He is a believer. I don't know what he does or where he lives etc. but I care very much for him and pray for him. In the 70s I searched for God and He found me. Part of my journey (BC) included a whole year when I smoked pot continuously, though I never paid for it - just happened to have friends who always had it. Yes, we know God's grace goes beyond what we can ever comprehend. I thank you both for what you have said. In our church we are looking forward to Jesus' return. As our Pastor says, and we agree, we want to take as many people as possible with us so we extend our hands in love towards anyone who comes in the door, regardless of how they appear. God does look at the heart, not the outward appearance. I always say something along the lines of "It's a 'come as you are party'". We come to Him in all our sin and hopelessness. Part of being a new creation is the requirement for repentance; rarely preached these days. Once we are born again believers the Holy Spirit begins to convict us and change us. Are we going to yield or not? Is is our will or His will that is to be done? Is someone truly given over to His will? Only they know. We will continue to love them and try to show Christ's example whenever we can. We have had drunks and drug addicts walk in on our weekly prayer meeting and they are allowed to pray with us and be prayed for. God loves them. Willa - I thank you for your wonderful words.   17. Roman Catholic Theology traditionally confuses Justification and Sanctification, combining aspects and attributes of each and then applying them to the other. In traditional (Calvinist - also called covenant theology), they are mutually exclusive: Justification being a legal forensic act when the Judge (God the Father) declares us not guilty on the basis of Christ's righteousness which has been imputed to us, and our sins which are imputed to Christ. In the new Covenant Justification is entirely by God, and it is a one off event, without any human works: "and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." (Romans 3:24). Sanctification follows on after Justification, it's the work of the Holy Spirit, working together with us (so human works are involved), in gradually making us more holy and separated from sin to God and his work. As I have said Roman Catholic Theology traditionally confuses Justification and Sanctification by merging them, in the Protestant tradition, starting with some of the extreme holiness groups of the 19th century, many of these groups also began to firstly confuse and then to merge Justification with Sanctification. Lordship salvation is the belief, which developed out of the holiness movement, that we must add our own human good works to justification, by making Christ Lord, in order to be saved. But this completely ignores Romans 4:5 which states that God only saves the ungodly who are NOT WORKING for their own salvation. Traditionally such holiness groups, as well as those advocating Lordship salvation, add firstly repentance, and secondly cleaning up your own life in order to gain justification, thereby misunderstanding that whilst repentance and cleaning up your life is indeed commanded by God (in James 2 for instance), however, these things are a part of sanctification and not justification. Once you understand the difference, Lordship salvation becomes extremely easy to understand! The rise of dispensational theology in America at the turn of the 20th century has been one of the other factors for the rise of Lordship salvation, as few in that movement possess a good grasp of Justification and Sanctification, and so are highly susceptible to confusing the two. Thus in conclusion, salvation (i.e. justification) is by grace and completely without any human works by us (Romans 4:5). Lordship salvation isn't wrong to add repentance, holiness and good works into the mix, as they are indeed commanded: "20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone. (James 2:20-24), but good works are a part of our sanctification, and most certainly not our Justification, so by confusing the two, much false doctrine and error arises. It's interesting that both Romans 4:5 and James 2, quote Abraham's works, but give polar opposite commands (i.e don't work, and you must work). The answer is obvious, Romans 4:5 applies Abraham's works to Justification, and James 2:22 applies his works to sanctification.

Is it the love? The wisdom? The freedom?

I know you are post trib, but there is still time for me to write why I believe in the pre-trib. Will do it on my blog after I do `kingdoms.` BTW I am on the final run with my debate with Shiloh, so not long now. It has been a mammoth debate though. Always good to debate with some one like Shiloh who has a good Bible knowledge. Not saying he knows it all, or that I do either. Her demands are killing my wife and I don't like it, and tell her so. In fact our last conversation went something like this: "Virginia, I care about my wife and I am going to protect her from harm." "well, she's my daughter too, don't you think I care about her too?" "Not really, you are too busy and concerned with carrying about yourself, you have no time or energy left over to care about others." Honestly, I still do the things I need to do to help her get by each day, but I do such while cussing underneath my breath to myself. I'm sure God will keep her around for 5 more years to teach me more lessons of loving the unlovable. Oh boy! Anyhow, I always enjoy reading your solid words of wisdom and steadfast faith.   28. After looking up the definitions, I guess I believe in Lordship salvation. But no one understands all that at first. We just know that there is a God Who knows me, I have sinned and need forgiveness, He loves me so much He sent Jesus to die in my place; So I pray and ask God to forgive me. I hunger to read the Bible and pray. Some desire to immediately be baptized. Most desire to live a life pleasing to God. It is the work of God to change us into the likeness of Christ, from glory to glory, as we are cleaned by His Word and our minds are renewed. Learning to hear His voice and follow Him is a growing process. Even Samuel had to be taught how to recognize God's voice. It takes time to become acquainted with Scripture. It takes time to recognize God's attributes, just Who He is. The more we learn, the more we love Him. We learn that we can't live the life in our own strength, but must rely on the leading and love of Christ in us. Genuine faith will produce works. When we are born again, the life of christ in us changes attitudes and produces godly works. They are not of self, but are motivated by God's love as we walk in the Spirit. Salvation is a gift from God. Faith is a gift from God. They are produced by God's grace. We do nothing to earn it or deserve it. But the response to our salvation and newfound relationship with God is to surrender to Christ as Lord and God. This was the response of Thomas when he put his hand in Jesus' side and saw the holes in his wrists. My Lord and my God! When we truly believe we are filled with thanksgiving and joy.   29. They is one Savior for all, one Savior who saves from Hell. Your question can be translated. Can the Savior save those who believe in him from Hell on a count of his name only. If the answer is yes, then he can call himself a Savior without wicknesses, Does he needs our own holiness to save us from Hell, no he doesn't, many of the Believers may not see him in their every day life because of their own ways, but the still see him High and lifted up , and sited on the Throne of God, as JESUS CHRIST the Savior , who die for the forgiveness of our sins.

When I backslid in the 60s, when my husband prevented me from attending church and I figured I could read the Bible and pray at home, I first began praying less and then found that months had gone by between doing either one. Jesus said we must stay connected to the vine to produce fruit, and that those who don't produce fruit will be cut off. I certainly withered, but I kept praying every so often that God wouldn't let me fall too far. He started sending me "wake up calls". The one I remember most distinctly was my sister in law asking me if I had been saved, and thinking that if she can't tell then something is seriously wrong. So after 4 years I started attending church again and then went to a Campus Crusade meeting. There I read the Holy Spirit booklet which plainly showed me that I was a carnal Christian and needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. When I started attending the discipleship small group, God convicted me of my hatred for my father in law and I knew I was lost because I could not love him. I asked God to love him through me. I finally learned how to follow Christ and listen to His Spirit. Once again I was being fed by His Spirit and was following Him, allowing Christ to live in me thus producing good fruit. God does call prodigals back and send us wake up calls. Those who want to be in relationship with God, He will keep. Those who don't desire the clean heart and clean fun and joy in Christ will harden their hearts and resist the call of the Spirit, quenching Him till they grow so cold they are cut off and ready to be burned. It is those who continually resist the call of God and work of the Spirit that were never His. Joh 3:18 ESV Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. Joh 3:19 And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.   40. To truly follow Christ means He has become everything to us. Everyone follows something: friends, popular culture, family, selfish desires, or God. We can only follow one thing at a time (Matthew 6:24). God states we are to have no other gods before Him (Exodus 20:3; Deuteronomy 5:7; Mark 12:30). To truly follow Christ means we do not follow anything else. Jesus said in Luke 9:23, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." There is no such thing as a "halfway disciple." As the disciples demonstrated, no one can follow Christ by the strength of his own willpower. The Pharisees were good examples of those who were trying to obey God in their own strength. Their self-effort led only to arrogance and distortion of the whole purpose of God's Law (Luke 11:39; Matthew 23:24). Jesus gave His disciples the secret to faithfully following Him, but they did not recognize it at the time. He said, "The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing (John 6:63). And "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled them” (verse 65). The disciples had walked with Jesus for three years, learning, observing, and participating in His miracles. Yet, even they could not follow Him faithfully in their own strength. They needed a Helper. Jesus promised many times that, once He had ascended to the Father, He would send a "Helper" to them—the Holy Spirit (John 14:26; 15:26). In fact, He told them that it was for their good that He was going away so that the Holy Spirit could come (John 16:7). The Holy Spirit indwells the heart of every believer (Galatians 2:20; Romans 8:16; Hebrews 13:5; Matthew 28:20). Jesus warned His followers that they were not to begin testifying of Him "until you have been clothed with power from on high" (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4). When the Holy Spirit came upon those first believers at Pentecost, they suddenly had all the power they needed to follow Christ, even to the death, if needed (Acts 2:1–4; 4:31; 7:59-60). Following Jesus means striving to be like Him. He always obeyed His Father, so that's what we strive to do (John 8:29; 15:10). To truly follow Christ means to make Him the Boss. That's what it means to make Jesus Lord of our lives (Romans 10:9; 1 Corinthians 12:3; 2 Corinthians 4:5). Every decision and dream is filtered through His Word with the goal of glorifying Him in everything (1 Corinthians 10:31). We are not saved by the things we do for Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9) but by what He has done for us. Because of His grace, we want to please Him in everything. All this is accomplished as we allow the Holy Spirit to have complete control of every area of our lives (Ephesians 5:18). He explains the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 2:14), empowers us with spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11), comforts us (John 14:16), and guides us (John 14:26). It's literally God owned property that has been purchased by the Blood of Jesus The Christ, and this is not your body, as your body, (which is not redeemed yet), will be converted to a "new body" later on. So, the "born again" part, that God has redeemed with the Blood of Lamb, is not affected by your "physical realm" with respect to your "oneness" with God, or your "in Christ" position regarding your "born again" part. Death, regarding a born again Christian, is to be sent to God, no matter if you do it to yourself, or if God directs your time to be over, etc. "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord", and there are no exclusions for the born again, as the day you were redeemed is the day your eternal ticket was punched for GloryLand... You are going if y0u are saved, and the best thing you can do is live your life before the God who Saved you, as if you are going TODAY. The Fact is......being in your body is keeping you from being with your Lord, in person....... So, what is better?.......Paul said it isn't to be in your body that is best for you, tho it might be "needful". Honestly, i have no idea why a Christian would want to hold on to living on this planet, yet most Christians not only fear death, they dont even want to think about it, and yet its DEATH that is the true door to the Glory that God has said is so good that "it has not entered into your mind".....just how great it is,........ yet....... most Christians are more interested in cable TV, Internet, having fun, video games, texting, talking & writing online, eating, spending money...= the pleasures of this world.......and would hold onto these things as LONG AS THEY CAN.... Perhaps you've read the verse in your NT that says you are currently seated in Heavenly Places 'IN" Christ Jesus......so, that is obviously not your literal body,........ yet.....= there you are.. Have you read about the "hero's of the Faith" in Hebrews Chapter 11? If so, you noted that SAMSON is mention as a hero of the faith.....and Samson was a suicide....He Killed himself killing his enemies. Now for a deeper truth...... there is a very very very fine line between taking your own life, and sacrificing your life, as in both cases you are knowingly dying on purpose..... The only real difference is motive, as the end result is, you end up dead.

The veil or covering on the head of a believing Corinthian wife showed that she was under the authority of her husband, and therefore under submission to God. Within this passage is also verse 10: "For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels." Why is that important to angels? The relationship of God with men is something that angels watch and learn from (1 Peter 1:12). Therefore, a woman's submission to God's delegated authority over her is an example to angels. The holy angels, who are in perfect and total submission to God, expect that we, as followers of Christ, be the same. This covering not only means a cloth but also can refer to a woman's hair length. How can we say that? We must take this verse in the context or the setting in which it is presented. "Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her; for her hair is given to her for a covering" (1 Corinthians 11:14-15). Therefore, in the context of this passage, a woman who is wearing her hair longer marks herself out distinctively as a woman and not a man. The Apostle Paul is saying here that in the Corinthian culture, when a wife's hair was longer than her husband's, it showed her submission to his headship. The roles of the male and female are designed by God to portray a profound spiritual lesson, that is of submission to the will and the order of God. But why is hair an issue in this passage? The apostle Paul is addressing an issue related to the Corinthian culture that was being allowed to disrupt the church. For a woman to have a shaved head was a disgrace (and, in Jewish thinking, a sign of mourning, Deuteronomy 21:12). Her hair was her “glory” (1 Corinthians 11:15). In the Corinthian culture, women normally wore a head covering as a symbol of their submission to their husbands. Paul affirms the rightness of following that cultural mandate—to dispense with the head coverings on women would send the entirely wrong signal to the culture at large. In fact, Paul says that, if a Christian woman refuses her head covering, she might as well shave her hair off, too (verse 6). A woman who refused to wear a covering in that culture was basically saying, “I refuse to submit to God’s order.” Therefore, the apostle Paul is teaching the Corinthians that hair length or the wearing of a “covering” by the woman was an outward indication of a heart attitude of submission to God and to His established authority. God's order is that the husband is the head of the wife as God is the head of Christ, but there is no inequality or inferiority implied. God and Christ are equal and united, just as the husband and the wife are one. This is not a passage that teaches the woman is inferior to man or that she should be submissive to every man. It is teaching God's order and spiritual headship in the marriage relationship. In the Corinthian culture, a woman who covered her head during worship or when she was in public displayed her submission to authority. In today's culture, we no longer view a woman's wearing of a head covering as a sign of submission. In most modern societies, scarves and hats are fashion accessories. A woman has the choice to wear a head covering if she views it as a sign of her submission to the authority of her husband. However, it is a personal choice and not something that should be used to judge spirituality. The real issue here is the heart attitude of obedience to God's authority and submission to His established order “as to the LORD” (Ephesians 5:22). God is far more concerned with an attitude of submission than an outward display of submission via a head covering.
