  1. Many Christians seem to get caught up in trying to figure out what God wants us to do rather than who God wants us to be. We become focused on seeking to better know God's to-do list for our lives so we can check off all of the items on it. We rarely slow down from this and ask *who* is it that God created me to be? We start to come to see our value as Christians by how much we accomplish for God rather than in becoming who God made us to be. In the long run, we will accomplish much more in being the person God created us to be than trying to do as much as we possibly can. I spent over 30 years as a Christian with this mindset that what I was supposed to do as a Christian defined who I was. It was about maximizing the use of my gifts and talents and pouring as much time and effort into ministry as I could to bear as much good spiritual fruit as I could. I was defining myself by striving to be the best Christian, the best husband, the best father, the best employee, the best fill-in-the-blank I could be. Over a period of about 6 months to a year, God forced me to slow down and put me in front of a mirror and forced me to look long and hard and I realized I had no clue who God made me to be. All I could see was the roles, tasks, gifts, talents, and efforts I had been putting into things. Over the next year, God started working on me to show me who He had created me to be. He started healing things that had been shackles and chains on my natural personality. My gifts, talents, and experience became *tools* for me to use rather than my identity. One of the biggest changes is that I now find what I do tends to be much more natural and just flows rather than being something I have to work at. There are of course many things we all have in common as Christians that describe our lives. But then there is the uniqueness about each of us that is meant to reflect God's glory to the world in a way unique to us. It is not that we have particular gifts and talents that makes us unique, but there is something about each one of us that is a special treasure and work of art of God. Until we can look in the mirror and start to see that unique work of art God is creating and rejoice in that, we'll be trying on our own strength to do what we and others think God wants us to do. There are many painters and illustrators in the world with a range of abilities and skills. However, there is only one you that is a unique work of art of God. As you learn who God is making you to be and come to rejoice and be comfortable in being that person, your gifts and talents will become tools that you can use to express and communicate things in ways that will go well beyond the ability to paint or illustrate. You may also find that what you like about drawing might be used or expressed in ways other than drawing as well.

And he (the steward) searched, .. and began at the eldest, .... and left at the youngest: ...... and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack. Then they rent their clothes, .. and laded every man his ass, .... and returned to the city. And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house; .. for he was yet there: .... and they fell before him on the ground.' (Genesis 44:11-14) Praise God! 'Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth?' (Genesis 37:9-10) Praise His Holy Name!

  5. I'm glad you said this. Back in the 1970's I made a donation to Jimmy Swaggart Ministries and as a thank you he sent out lovely wooden hard covered copies of the NT. Swaggart himself was a JKV-only person, so of course, the Bibles he sent out were KJV. I have nothing against the KJV my problem is I just don't understand old English. But I found the NT Swaggart sent out even harder to understand so I compared a few verses to the typical KJV of which I owned one. There were quite a few differences. The meanings hadn't changed but many words were changed to make it read more like poetry than the KJV I owned. So many words were different I was surprised that Swaggart sent them out. I later read an article saying there are indeed 3 or 5 KJVs. The Swaggart one may have been closest to the original KJ's Bible because recently I read an article stating King James liked poetry and therefore his translators made it as poetic as they could to please their King. Great, but I'm no better with poetry than I am with old English. I'm forever indebted to the writers of the original NIV because it rescued me when I was lost. Sadly, that original NIV doesn't seem to exist anymore but I still have mine. It was less paraphrased than the Zondervan press versions are, but I still like some of them. I also use a NJKV and more recently the ESV. Many Bible versions are good, a few are okay, but the Message version is garbage. I couldn't even finish 1 page nor 1 Psalm.

  6. When I think about the work of sanctification in our day, I'm encouraged by what Paul wrote. Php 2:15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, Php 2:16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. ... even in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation ...

  7. Many of the KJV words were translated correctly in the 1600s but have changed in meaning over the centuries. One of those words is conversation; it meant manner of life back then but today it means a dialogue between people. The Message is not a translation. Neither is the Living Bible. The New Living Translation retains a lot of the words in the Living Bible but tries to make it truer to the text. I am not a fan. The New World Translation is not a translation since the changes were made by a person who does not know the original languages as he demonstrated in a court of law. Likewise, many of the translations produced by the American Bible Society for poorly educated or English second language people are too loosely translated, like Good News. If every jot and tittle was held to by God, it would seem that we need to be as accurate as possible. NIV is good in some areas but some of its translators used too much paraphrase in the portions they translated thought for thought so I trust it less. NASV was a good translation of its manuscript but I personally believe the "earliest" manuscript left out too much. So I prefer NKJV, Amplified Bible or ESV. ESV restored most eliminated passages to the text with a foot note. Amplified adds words other literal translations have used to translate a Greek or Hebrew word; other words added by translators are in brackets so you may understand it is not part of the Greek or Hebrew text. Others that I refer to are: YLT, LITV, Wuest, ALT3.

  8. Quite honestly I was not complaining, I was warning everyone, most especially new Bible readers to avoid this like the plague. I listened to parts of it and the narrator made it sound worse because of his emphasis. Lots of people gave examples but what made me shut it off when his version of King Solomon's lamenting came out something like this: Since everything is meaningless anyway don't even strain yourself to work or do what's right. Sooner or later you will die so eat, drink, have fun, enjoy life while you can. I paraphrased that. This kind of thinking is largely responsible for our current messed up world. It's the old, "if it feels good do it" philosophy and it does not belong in what an unsuspecting person can read thinking it is the Word of God. This kind of thinking has legalized Gay marriage, wants to legalize bestiality, and may eventually want pedophilia made legal. The ancient Roman men would marry a boy and we've been going in their direction. One problem is the older generations who knew better didn't warn the younger ones enough. I'm now 1 of the older folks who knows better and my post was a warning. Take our word for it. Don't read it yourself.

  9. I've been to Jerusalem hundreds of times since I've been living in Israel for the past 15+ years. The problem with speculative locations ... is that they are speculative. If you think about it ... Doesn't Satan know where the Temple would have been? If so, wouldn't he want to "desecrate it" and try to show that he is in control? So you go to where the "Holy of Holies" probably stood ... and you find ... on top of the Mosque on the Temple Mount ... inscriptions ... such as God has no son ... The true religion with God is Islam ... If you look outside the Eastern Gate, the Golden Gate ... there is a Islamic graveyard along the wall ... why? To try to prevent a Jewish Messiah from walking in the walled up gate ... as any rabbi wouldn't be able to walk through a graveyard without being defiled. As you really study out the site, you'll be blown away as to the steps taken to try and "defile" and "prevent" any fulfillment of prophecy. Also, you'll discover that they built a mosque under the Temple Mount ... the largest in the world ...as they dug it out ... they disposed of the dirt and they are still excavating the soil in search of Temple relics. https://www.breakingisraelnews.com/108180/rare-jewish-coins-found-in-temple-mount-excavation/ https://www.timesofisrael.com/temple-mount-project-yields-treasure-but-unearths-conflict/ God bless you in your search ... 11. My husband has struggled with porn since before marriage and continues in the cycle of me finding out, asking him, him lying until he realizes I’ve seen, then confessing and apologizing saying he won’t do it again. I always forgive and offer to support him if he’ll just be honest about it. This time it seems the content has gotten worse and he’s consistently searching for things about incest like brother/ sister, mother/son, father/daughter, and we have 3 young kids at home. With 1 being a daughter this really frightens me. Should I be worried about their safety if this type of porn is what interests him? What should I do? I’m not even sure how to approach this anymore as each time seems to escalate and him just finding better ways to hide it. I wish we could afford counseling but can’t. And I’ve asked him about going but he says no. How should I handle this?

  12. For example. I'm an artist meaning I illustrate and paint...however I work so much and so hard( going 5o get a second job soon) just to live in 5his society... That I can't draw like I want 5o.. Also since I struggle with anxiety that also keeps me from drawing sometimes... It bothers me as it's me dream but due to these stressors I find my passion for art waning. I still love it but I don't have the passion I used to. Another example is a coworker who's a gifted singer. She has children and also works super hard so she doesn't do much with her talent either... Do you think God would be disappointed in us?

  13. There is a difference in the gospels preached by Peter and Paul. It is evident by the preaching of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Below, Peter was speaking; Acts 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; According to Peter, Christ was raised to sit on the throne of David in the coming earthly kingdom. Romans 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. According to Paul's gospel above, Christ died for our sins; as our substitute; to satisfy and appease the wrath, justice, and righteousness of God. The cross of Jesus Christ provided our atonement. He was buried. He rose again for our justification. This is the gospel we are to believe and trust alone for our salvation and eternal life.

  14. Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel. 16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, Paul said the gospel he preached was "my gospel". The gospel Paul preached was revealed to him by Christ. Galatians 1:12 Christ will stablish, or strengthen, the church according to Paul's gospel. Romans 16:25 Paul's gospel revealed that salvation was to all who believed, apart from Israel and the covenants. Romans 3:22 Romans 3:24 Romans 3:30 Paul's gospel taught that through the cross Christ provided a complete salvation for us. 1 Corinthians 1:18 Paul's gospel taught that Christ died for our sins, as our substitute, for the payment of our debt and penalty for sin. 1 Corinthians 15:3 Paul's gospel revealed that the resurrection of Christ accomplished our justification unto eternal life. Romans 4:25 Paul's gospel and the revelation of the mystery was not found in the scriptures. Romans 16:25 Paul's gospel revealed the mystery of salvation; how God could save sinners. Romans 3:25 Romans 3:26 Paul's gospel revealed a new creature, in which there is no Jew or Gentile. Galatians 3:28 Galatians 6:15 Paul's gospel revealed the body of Christ. Ephesians 2:16 1 Corinthians 12:27 Paul's gospel revealed our position in the heavenly places. Ephesians 2:6 2 Timothy 4:18 Paul's gospel also preached Christ from the scriptures of the law and prophets. Romans 16:26 Paul was given the dispensation of Grace. Ephesians 3:2 Paul's was given a dispensation of the gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:17

  15. Christmas This Year But for the Grace of God go I Is what we ought to say When looking at the homeless plight And hunger felt today We have a roof above our heads To keep us warm and dry Some huddle under cardboard While too many pass them by The aching in their bellies Is a pain we've never known We're blessed with friends and family And a place to call our own We say it's not our problem And dismiss it from our mind But Jesus sees and says to us, "Oh, naked wretched blind... How can you say you love Me Whom you've never seen at all Yet treat your fellow man this way And deafen to his call? To turn your eyes away from them And shrug so easily While rushing to buy Christmas gifts To pile beneath your tree This year let's spread some warmth and cheer In any way we can Let's share God's Love and pray For peace on earth good will to man

  17. . No, everyone should not be less concerned about work and money. Will a Church with only full-time pastors, missionaries, prophets and no lay members working full-time outside the Church be able to finance itself.? . 2THESSALONIANS.3:6-15 (NKJV) = Warning Against Idleness 6 But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us. 7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you; 8 nor did we eat anyone’s bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, 9 not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us. 10 For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. 11 For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. 12 Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. 13 But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. 14 And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. 15 Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

  19. Here is a handful of verses to consider: Ecc 9:10 Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you eventually go. Gal 6:4-5 (4) But let each man prove his own work, and then shall he have his glorying in regard of himself alone, and not of his neighbour. (5) For each man shall bear his own burden. Gal 6:8-10 (8) For he that sows unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. (9) And let us not be weary in well–doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. (10) So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith. Eph 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Col 4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. In NZ where I am there are numerous Christians who are receiving their fortnightly superannuation payments (aka pension) and providing their skills and services free of charge when their help is needed. The vibe is great - a former professional IT serviceman did $600 worth of work on our computors and refused any payment other than a cup of tea and godly fellowship. When I was asked by an older Christian man for suggestions as to what he could do now that he is no longer able to find paid work I replied that I believed it was an opportunity to be more involved in ministry, serving the body of Christ in an area of the Lord's directing. ?

  20. There is only one thing you really have to do. Accept Jesus into your heart. The rest is all secondary to that. Work full time or not, give to charity or not, it really doesn't compare to the top thing. As Christians we should try our best to follow the teachings in the Bible but doing those works will not get you into Heaven. Only one thing can do that.

  21. For all we know Jesus was a superb ballet dancer. That wasn't His calling however and as such I believe that God has a role for all of us. If you are a great artist then create your art but that may not be God's plan for you. I am very weirdly good at video games, excel at them actually but that's not His plan for me. Still, that doesn't mean I can't still play them it just means that I know they will never be used to fit into His plans. Some people are great artists, fishermen, great at sports, all sorts of things but those things are not the priority for God.

  22. There's a bit of work involved in proving all things and holding fast to what is good. Some translations have "test all things", and the thought is to examine and decide on its worthiness for inclusion in our life. Worldliness is out, and certainly works of the flesh are not to be included, but how to decide on what constitutes the appearance of evil and avoid giving it, that's the challenge every day. Praise God in Christ for the help of the Holy Spirit. 1Thess 5:21-24 (21) Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (22) Abstain from all appearance of evil. (23) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (24) Faithful is he that calls you, who also will do it.

  23. When I read both posts above, several times to see if I could add a comment or not, I forgot about any post I might make and realized how far short I am from fulfilling the commands contained in the verses. "Prove all, hold fast to good, abstain from all appearance of evil, blameless unto the coming of our Lord, blameless and innocent, without blemish, shine as lights, holding fast to the word" ........ How could I do all this, as I feel so weak. But then I noticed vs 24, Faithful is he that calls you, who also will do it. Then I saw vs 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly So cool. Not I, but Christ in me........

  24. Like Yowm said, the parable referred to money. I believe it also refers to any blessing God gives, to not waste it, but to invest it as a good steward of God's blessings, that they will increase, and used for God's glory. But to answer your question about your abilities, talent, gift, expertise, I would say that of most people employed, only a tiny fraction really love their work. As a carpenter for a half century, personally really enjoy taking my time and making fine crafted items from wood. But I'm too slow, and the demand is slight, competing with China imports, so I do what I have to, remodeling and building homes in the past, and now fabricating industrial cabinet enclosures for commercial costumers. I still enjoy building good cabinets, and the Lord blesses. I see no reason why you couldn't find employment to pay the bills, and still pursue your gift, as you desire. Less stress with the bills paid may help the anxiety. As a child of God, call upon Him, acknowledge Him, as He will give you direction. You should be anxious for nothing, as the word says. "Work is the best narcotic"

  25. You make a good point. God's word is true, as God is light. But my point was, there will always be that remnant, the scarlet thread, throughout history, of those who would believe. But what about; Romans 10;14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? There were those who do/will believe. I do not worry about who will not receive the truth, but proclaim it to whosoever will. As I have been instructed. As every believer should be faithful.

  27. I disagree Spookycolt, First I think it's common sense a Born Again Christian with a man who isn't even open to God is starting off wrong. There is a chance the marriage may work and maybe that even the husband will come to God through his wife. But the greater probability is that over time the wife will grow less close to God. I've heard of this more often than the opposite situation. Secondly, the Biblical reason you gave is misapplied. There are several examples of what I mean in the Gospels but I'm not sure which one is best here. I'm thinking of Jesus chiding the Pharisees because they condemned Him for healing on the Sabbath but they readily pull their trapped animals out of a ditch on the Sabbath. You need wisdom and discernment to know which rule applies in a given situation. In this one I think the unequally yoked together applies. This man is not interested in God much less Jesus. He simply acknowledges God is real. That's not enough. He might have even said that to make his gf happy. I've even heard of unbelievers pretending to be interested only to drop the pretense after the wedding. I've even heard of unbelievers falsely accepting our Lord to make the believer happy. That doesn't result in salvation nor is the person Born Again, which becomes painfully obvious in time. This is a potentially volatile situation and IMO she's better off to end it now before it explodes. I am sorry.

  33. Actually i think Pinkbelt makes a valid point, and davida just drove it home. My wife volunteers at a local crisis pregnancy center, whose goal is to help young mothers who are pregnant and dont know what to do And you have no idea how many of these young mothers have absolutely no support system in place, absolutely no idea what options are available to them, and many are from Christian homes and are already feeling ashamed of their mistake but are afraid to let those close to them know out of fear of their judgement. Some do know...we have literally had young pregnant women come in who were kicked out of their home by their "Christian" parents because of their mistake. We live in a world where women arnt taught to abstain, and a judgemental church that instead of helping them, turn thems away, often leaving these young mothers to be alone, lost with no idea what to do. In that position, abortion often is the easy way out, indeed from their perspective often is the only way out that they can see. Roe Vs wade could easily be overturned, but its going to require a heart change of the nation for that to happen.

  34. My view, my experience. At our church over many years I have known several female/believers members who were married to lost husbands. It is usually the wife trying to bring the husband, the majority of the time. I believe the wives were saved after the marriage. Occasionally some husbands would attend, but then later, not. After a time, the wife, growing, enthusiastically involved, thirsting for Christian fellowship, would eventually not show up, for whatever reason. Sad. I do remember there were some couples that I still know that were saved at different times after marriage, as in my case, and many couples I know also. Based upon the fact that there be few that enter therein, it is dangerous ground to ignore God's explicit warnings.

  35. Can marriage between a truly committed Christian and a non-believer really work? Nope, not for the long term. Maryjane beat me to the Scripture as to why. Notice the comparison between light and darkness in 2 Corinthians 6:14. The two are polar opposites. Light drives out darkness and the two cannot coexist in the example. A marriage with one partner lost and one saved also won't work very well because each partner's life is being pulled in opposite directions that will never meet, and a marriage is supposed to be about two people growing together (and dying to self) as some have described it. I've personally known quite a few couples over the years who got married . . . and the believer was miserable. If it wasn't something on the natural side of things, then they were miserable spiritually. There was always some kind of conflict about something in many cases. How does the lost partner react to the kids being taken to church, etc.? I've also seen quite a few testimonies here on the forums about the misery being unequally yoked can cause - and its almost always the believer who suffers or is brought down spiritually. Sometimes the lost partner does get saved - but generally speaking they find all kinds of reasons to justify their choices in their partners behavior and "hypocrisy." In one case the lost partner got "saved," and went through the motions for awhile, but their life never really changed and they left church and their family not long after. It usually does not end well in most cases.

Then I believe the Lord just had me not on there at all. It is very invasive of privacy. People are just not thinking. I read an article that the FBI, and other government agencies used to have to do a lot of footwork to get info on people to do their investigations, now they don't have to. They just go on the social media, twitter, and they can find out exactly where you are, what you are doing, what you are eating, who you are with and what you believe in. People need to BEWARE.

  42. I totally agree...it's all a part of "setting-the-stage" for the New World Order and having control over all mankind! I guess that's why I've never felt right about joining it? But I also felt strange about it, even before I knew about the NWO...perhaps I just didn't trust the site, believing that it's not as "private" as they'd like us to think it is - either way...it's just too sus for me! Just my thoughts on the matter..

  43. I am with you, LivingbyFaith. I have never been interested in fb. My daughter has it, and my husband. But our other daughter cancelled hers and so have some other people I know. I find that, whenever I meet up with people I haven't seen for a while, they always know the news I was going to talk to them about already, thus making meeting up a bit of a non-event. I am also wary of big brother. They have enough on us already!

  44. I am not with facebook, never have been and never will be. I can't say why not, I can only say that my instincts tell me "not to have anything to do with it!"

  45. The paragraph before this tells us that people who's name is written in the book of life will not worship the beast..... Jesus also tells us that no one can snatch us from the Father's hand and if the scripture that you quote was referring to born again people then it would be snatching us from the hand of the Father...… So I have to disagree with you in that a born again person can be deceived into taking the mark or worshiping the beast....

  46. Rev. 14 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
