I want to go to church...

Posted by ~candice~ , in General 06 June 2011 · 36,957 views

When I want say I want to go to church, what I mean is that I want to belong to the local assembly of believers, who gather together to worship, pray, hear the Word of the Lord preached, be accountable and keep my brothers and sisters accountable. To encourage others in their walk. I want to be in their life and I want them in mine. I want to know their heart for the Lord and feast with them on His goodness and glory. I want them to smack me up the side of the head when I have erred or straying off the narrow path.

I have a home church, but I am new there, only moving a few weeks back. It is somewhat challenging having to reform those kind of relationships again. I don't think they feel comfortable doing that yet, but I know the Spirit dwells within them and it won't be long.

A family member took me to her church recently, something she has wanted to do for a while. It consisted of parking the car a few minutes before the service started, sneaking in the back door, singing a few songs, listening to prayer and a sermon, and leaving before the band had even finished the final 'wrap up' worship song. Is this church? I'm struggling to accept it.
Getting our names ticked off the attendance list just isn't going to cut it. We need to be participants in the body, not observers.

I've written about this before but today I realised how important it is: we need accountability. We don't embark on serving the Lord isolated from all chastisement and rebuke. There is a role for our brothers and sisters in the Lord to play to call us out when we err. And I find it quite uncomfortable when no one in my life plays this role.

Can you tell that Someone has cleaned my mirror? I love it and hate it when this happens. I am stirred and convicted and uncomfortable, the way I was just before I got saved. I know the Lord is about to do something, but not alone. I love it because I know the love disciplines those He loves, I hate it because it means I have to change, die even more to self.

Heb 10
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one anotheróand all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Blessed be the name of the Lord

I too have recently started attending a new church. Oh what a blessing to find relationships like you have described. I will be a seeker of that kind of relationship with my brothers and sisters in Christ.. Bless your heart Candice, I wish everyone I went to church with felt like you....

Finding a Church family of the kind you describe is my hearts desire. It seems distant though in this world and I am not sure if the reason is my own condition.
Lord Jesus help !

Ahhhh you are someone like myself this is something I'd say : ) "I want them to smack me up the side of the head when I have erred or straying off the narrow path." ((I told my pastor friend mike he could smack me upside the head ------- he didn't do it though, pastors I just don't think they are the smack upside the head sorts, his sermon might've been his way of smacking my upside the head though - smack : ) hahahahahahahahahaha))
We all do stupid stuffs so you definately got the right idea to like really really be involved in a church and having people hold ya accountable n'stuffs.

Love your thoughts, and as for Guest it is my hearts desire. Christians are seem to be notoriously difficult to find on any other day than Sunday (unless you're in the clic). What happened to getting up before work and congregating daily?

Ouch! And it is soooooooooo true ! We aren't the type to "clic" so during the week we witness to those we are led to by our Lord. I love those exciting opportunities to just be kind while sharing His great Love. Amen.

Enjoyed this and agree with it all. Accountability is one of the best parts of being in a local body of believers.

Same issue here! I spent the first 8 years of my Christian walk with absolutely no accountability and barely any fellowship. Just in the last couple of months have I found my "Lebanese Mum" to mentor me and keep me accountable. But we can't go to her church due to issues of not being able to submit to their leadership. The church we are going to is a Sunday-only-church and no one there seems that interested in speaking about spiritual things.

AAaah! Doesn't it make you long for the heavenly perfect church when we are in God's presence? :)

Ever gotten mad at your church? Is it a wrong thing to do? I am angry with the elders of my church for firing my pastor, so I am exploring other options as far as churches go right now. Can't seem to find anyplace quite like home, though. I have made a lot of new friends, however.

Hey Shiloh, I'm happy to pray you find a church for you. Have you given it prayer? Woot for new friends :). As for being mad... I wouldn't stay mad too long. Ask God for some clear directions and let go of that anger, regardless of whether you leave or stay. Was there a legitimate reason for firing your pastor? Posted Image
