What's your favourite hymn?

Today a friend of mine reminded me of this song which we used to sing when I was growing up:

"Jesus is wonderful, Jesus is wonderful, He is the one that I love X2. Blessings untold; flooding my soul; feeling my heart with His love! He is my everything Savior divine, He is the one that I love."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sweet memories of my older sister came flooding my heart, I remembered how she used to sing this song while she was cleaning my grannies house. My mind just went back to my simple yet full life!
And my friend reminded me that we are now singing this song with an understanding! Amazing how God was at work in my life, perfecting HIs work in me! So blessed!
So what's your favourite song and what does it remind of you? It doesn't necessarily have to be a Christian song.
My all time favorite song is Drift away by Dobie Gray.. a remake has been done of it sung by Uncle Kracker and it sounds almost the same .. Granted it's not a Christian song but it's always been a comfort to me...
And another one I have is Cool Change by The Little River Band...
Amazing Grace has always been my favorite hymn. It was my great grandfathers fave & I remember him humming it a lot when I was very young. I can hardly wait for the day I see him again!
The station I listen to on my 30 min drive over mtn to work plays it by Chris Tomlin & I am swept into tears of worship EVERY time. Praises & thanks to our God that He watches over me at those times, because blurry vision & mtn curves in the dark don't usually go well together. :)
If you know the story behind "It Is Well (With My Soul)", you'll see just what a fantastic testimony it was. I know when I get to feeling sorry for myself, I reflect on that hymm (and the backstory) and it helps put things into perspective.
Also, "The Wonderful Cross" by Michael W. Smith - which is based on the beautiful old hymm "When I Survey the Wonderful Cross".
Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it.
Blessings!
I have many favorite hymns, but I'd have to say that Amazing Grace is up there at the top, so here's another vote for Amazing Grace. As Christians, we would have nothing without God's Amazing Grace.
In the Garden:
Often on animal trails in areas of the world that no human had stepped I could see the Lords work. Alone with the voices of things made by God all around me, I knew that He walked with me and yes even talked with me, bringing peace and joy to a broken heart. :mgcheerful: None other has ev-er known.
To God be the Glory
To God be the glory, great things He has done;
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life gate that all may go in.
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He has done.
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.
Specifically the bold portion as it applies to me on a very deep level.
Gary
I do believe the title to be:
"Days Of Elijah"
These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the word of the Lord, yeah
And these are the days of Your servant Moses
Righteousness being restored
These are the days of great trials
Of famine and darkness and sword
Still we are the voice in the desert crying
Prepare ye the way of the Lord!
Say, behold He comes, riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun at the trumpet's call
Lift your voice, year of Jubilee
Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes
And these are the days of Ezekiel
The dry bones becoming flesh
And these are the days of Your servant, David
Rebuilding a temple of praise
And these are the days of the harvest
The fields are all white in Your world
And we are the laborers that are in Your vineyard
Declaring the Word of the Lord
Say, behold He comes, riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun at the trumpet's call
Lift your voice, year of Jubilee
Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes
Behold He comes, riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun at the trumpet's call
Lift your voice, year of Jubilee
Out of Zion's hill, salvation comes
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
There's no God like Jehovah!
I'm a brit and it has to be ,,
"
"Rock of Ages" a popular Christian hymn by Reverend Augustus Montague Toplady written in 1763 and first published in The Gospel Magazine in 1775.
Traditionally, it is held that Rev. Toplady drew his inspiration from an incident in the gorge of Burrington Combe in the Mendip Hills in England. Toplady, a preacher in the nearby village of Blagdon, was travelling along the gorge when he was caught in a storm. Finding shelter in a gap in the gorge, he was struck by the title and scribbled down the initial lyrics on a playing card.
The fissure that is believed to have sheltered Toplady is now marked as the "Rock of Ages"
(from wikipedia; sorry it was quicker for me to copy and paste)
I love this hymn and went to see the spot in the gorge when I was a small child of about nine.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure,
Save from wrath and make me pure.
Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.
Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die.
While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyes shall close in death,
When I rise to worlds unknown,
And behold Thee on Thy throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
I love How great is our God Too!!!!!! Lately I've been listening to some Kirk franklin For the Blood!!!! Just reminds me that by His blood we are forgiven. I also like He will supply by Kirk as well. In the song he says that God supplied our needs and not our greeds!!!! I love it!!! Lacrae is pretty cool too. He is a christian rapper and it raps about reality and jesus, not gangster stuff. I love singing to the Lord!!! There is so many hymns that I love!!!! As the Deer is and old favorite.
One of my favorites is How Great Thou Art. It says it all. I however go to a church were very few of the old hymns are sung. We sing mostly praise and worship songs and I love that. I am a worshiper, standing and raising my hands in worship and song is one of my favorite things to do. I believe worship to be a mindset. We can worship while we are feeding our dogs or doing our laundry. Worship brings into the presence of the Almighty living God. The word says God inhabits the praises of His people. So let us be all about worship.
Just as I Am, and It Is Well With My Soul. The first one was playing the night I answered the altar call. The second one never ends with dry eyes.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus! I find myself at times of trouble and frustrations, when things are getting the better of me to get that hymn in my thoughts and maybe even aloud. It has always seemed at least for me to bring things no matter what they are back into perspective in a troubled time.
