    • Reminders - Gossip             I was surprised to learn that the word gossip is not in the Scriptures. You’d think it would be, due to the damaging nature of its use. But there are phrases and words meaning ‘gossip’ such as backbiting, whispering, and slander. Scripture also says that those who do those things are called tale bearers, false witnesses, or busybodies. So, is gossip really all that bad? Well, it’s associated with the sins that those with a reprobate mind take part in. Sins such as sexual immorality, hatred, the desire to harm others, sowing strife, having pride, and hating God. Romans 1:28-31 So, why is gossip wrong and why do we need to be careful not to take part in it?             The heart of gossip comes from pride, which is the desire to elevate oneself above others. When we expose the weaknesses or faults of others, we are automatically and covertly announcing that we think we are better than them and would never do those things ourselves. People who point out the faults of others are blind to the fact that they have the same faults, albeit sometimes in a different form. Romans 2:1 For instance, those who would condemn a person for smoking because they are wasting money on something that causes harm to a temple of the Holy Spirit, think nothing of their own wastefulness and harm to the body by overeating. As equal members in the body of Christ, Philippians 2:2-5 tells us we are to “be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.” When we have the proper perspective of ourselves and others, we won’t gossip. But when we think more highly of ourselves than we ought, Romans 12:3 we sow strife among the brethren and will soon be brought low. Proverbs tells us, “Only by pride comes contention,” and “…destruction,” Proverbs 13:10, 16:18 the end results of gossip.             Final Thoughts: We need to be careful that we don’t allow our prayer meetings to turn into gossip sessions. How often have we heard words like, “Dear Lord, we pray that Jane Doe will quit nipping so much of her elderberry wine which I smelled on her breath last week. InJesus’NameAmen.” If God puts her on your heart that way, pray in private for her and if needed, go talk to her in private according to the pattern shown us in Matthew 18. Another way we ‘spiritually gossip’ is to pass on information shared by those praying aloud at the meeting. Unless prayer requests are put out to the general public, keep the information gleaned between you, the requester, and God. Neither should we pass on hearsay, nor be guilty of repeating these words, “I heard this about so and so. Is it true?” Sharing what we’ve heard about people under the guise of a prayer request is gossip and those who do so are busybodies. Rather, heed and obey these verses, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29 “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.” 1 Peter 4:15 When you are tempted to gossip, bite your tongue. ph
    • Malachi 3.16: "Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name."
    • Greetings Starise... Yes of course and I agree I have read many of your posts over the years...He does show you things...thank you for sharing some of them...I personally have both learned and been comforted through your "words"...and I am sure many others have as well. Which is exactly my point...Starise...in my own experience since 1986 I have come to understand that the leadership in any denominational structure almost always has the wrong Idea of who and what apostles and prophets...specifically...are to the Body of Christ in the New Covenant...up to today. Most think there is no need for them and there are a surprising number of religious leaders who believe and teach that "apostles and prophets" have ceased...these perspectives are not only flawed...but they are likely to be eternally flawed unless there is an acceptable repentance. These folks lead the church...not the Body of Christ.  The Holy Spirit teaches this "reality" in a completely "spiritual" way...where only via a "maturing spiritual discernment" of the "Living Word of God" as He "speaks or reveals" Himself...can His revelation be understood by the sons of God. Its a relationship not a destination...an intimate relationship at that. It is a Father and son relationship...and the Father has granted access to His sons...for their inheritance...via the Holy Spirit. This inheritance provides the son with all he needs to live his days on the earth as an eternal being in Christ. That's what modern religion in any flavor lacks.  A part from those gifts..."apostle, prophet, evangelist, shepherd and teacher"...from the Lord Yahshua Christ...one cannot "see" the Body of Christ as it is. The Lord told Nicodemus "unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." So a primary cause of spiritual blindness is not actually being born again...yet being able to read the bible...you can see the problem this presents...this always leads to the religion of the Babylonian harlot. He also told Nicodemus..."unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God"...meaning that those who proclaim the bible...because they can read...yet cannot see the Kingdom of God...they have no chance of being in the Kingdom of God today on the earth. Yet...these lead the churches everywhere. If there were prophets and apostles in the vicinity of these churches...they left when they were "called out" by the Lord Himself...however they are here on the earth today and are leading the Body of Christ exactly as they have been taught by their Head...Starise. There is more to say...at another time perhaps. Tatwo...:)
